Well, this shot in particular looks stupid as hell thanks to the effect parts, which aren’t even angled/tilted to enhance the intensity/perspective of the shot.

Hand shots are fine. They can help a photographer capture the right perspective that a stand/tripod can’t.

When you take a hand shot, it communicates: this is NBD. I can get a pose like this in seconds and undo it. If you have a whole photography setup, that's high effort and therefore cringe. It makes it look like you spent hours messing around with joints and looking at reference photos. Chad toy collectors are too busy to mess with that nonsense

I say “photographer” but not every person has the right tripod/setup for a decent picture. Plus overhead/non-lightbox lighting can sometimes screw with a casual photographer’s vision. In addition, sometimes people just want to take a quick pic.
