It all depends if Starscream has flexible grey plastic. Not easy to tell from pics, but so far all his flexible plastic appears to be red and we haven't seen discoloration issues with those... yet. Lets pray all the grey is hard plastic.

Both look good, I'm satisfied, even with the inaccurate flamethrower for Inferno, don't know why they modelled it on his arse engine. I also would have liked if that stunted Starsaber was some how compatible with core class.

Probably not. I still feel the original Inferno is still better cause even though it's close to 20 years old now, I don't remember ti yellowing unless you tried to make it yellow. This legacy will yellow in a few months.

Oh that’s an easy fix. I could just make some files of 5mm rods that go into the ports all over him that have a minicon port on them for you to just glue in if you’d like and put the 3d printing file here

This isn't bait, when you're in this franchise for almost 40 years it's disgusting to see the young ones, especially the zoomers born right before the 2000s introduced into this franchise by UTshit which spits on the foundation that G1 has laid out. And Hasbro spent a good portion of 2000 till mid 2010 appeasing to them while the TRUE fans get nothing. I'm still sad that you have to use the jet engine as a gun and it doesn't come with something that looks like the gun he had on the show. I was kinda really hoping they ended up giving him that. But then again I don't see the pincers in robot mode so either they're hiding in the head or they have something secret in there, but you'd think they would have that on the box art.

It does not matter whether it looks cool or not, it's about the SOUL. G1 has SOUL, it was the start of everything. BW has SOUL, it saved Transformers from stagnation and brought itself a great cartoon despite the somewhat poorly aged CG. UTshit has none of that, it was made with the clear of intention of dumbing down articulation to make way for gimmicks that never worked half the time which only kids with short attention spans love to eat up. The cartoon that followed it was a garbled mess and had animation errors well in the 2000s, it had no excuse being that bad. The line never had passion, only to sell for profits and that's why UTshit should never have been touched again. It almost killed Transformers until Bay stepped in.

Perhaps not for the last two you mentioned, but I do expect Armada Starscream to at least come with Minicon ports. Thrilling 30 Starscream has that and he's a Deluxe toy. Maybe Legacy version will still have it but it's only one port which is situated on the back between the two null ray cannons. These pics don't do a good job showing the back side anyways so I'll have to wait and see.

I like the ant mode and moving jaw in robot mode is fun. I wish Bulkhead had that. I'm not amazingly attached to the character so I probably can't spot the two or three off minor details that TOTALLY RUIN THE FIGURE AND BEAST WARS FOREVER, but he looks nice, I like arthropods so I might get.

There he is, my handsome edgy guy. He looks like an upscaled T30 deluxe which is alright, the main thing keeping me from getting that mold was the size so this is good. Lack of a minicon is a damn shame though, and the star saber that replaces it, while cool, is a little undersized and I'm probably gonna give him the jet/sword micros from siege anyway. Hopefully they do it as a core class somewhere down the line, or some 3p makes one in an upgrade kit. Wing sword not being made from the actual wing is kind of a shame but also kind of not? like on the original if you lost that accessory you were just fucked for jet mode so I get why it's a separate accessory on this. Also interesting that the sword it painted red like it would sometimes glow in the show. Overall the one thing that really disappoints me is the lack of a minicon but he looks great otherwise and I kind of have to get him

Honestly, getting Armada Starscream barely okay is just as bad as whatever they did to BW Inferno; most Armada characters had braindead transformation schemes and wonky proportions but it seems like they are, for some reason, trying to give Armada Starscream "proper" proportions thus fucking up both modes.
The only ones they could have an excuse for ruining would be the three core autobots, and Hot Shot only because it's a tradition to fuck him up; the guy's transformation is just Wheeljack with the torso screwed backwards but they do weird shit like Universe Hot Shot.

The Star Saber being smaller than his wing sword seems odd.

Probably budget cap for paint once again, despite the size up the swords probably ate a good chunk of the paint budget. Shame that TakaraTomy doesn't do animation accurate paint scheme anymore because while I like the new Starscream toy, it really just feels like a blob of red and black with some greys. Not much places painted to break up the monotony.

If "doesn't have gimmicks" was the mark of Soul, then you have to eliminate most of G1. Things like lights/sounds, pullback motors, springloaded transformation, combining, super modes, producing sparks, color changing from tempature, partners that form heads or engine bloocks that inhibit the ability to robot mode without, and Pretenders all started there.

Did G1 toys ever had to compromise articulation for gimmicks? No, articulation doesn't even exist back then because it was the 80s. What was Armada's excuse? It came out in the 2000s, after Beast Wars which brought so much articulation to the table only to throw it away in the name of gimmicks that severely compromised the toys.

Yeah, it's proof that people will complain about everything. I think Legacy Armadascream looks good. I figured they would cut most or all of the gimmicks present on the original (pack-in Swindle, mainly) so I'm not disappointed with the lack of ports or anything like that. It's how the bidness is these days. That said, I would still probably pick the original over the remakes. I prefer the chunky bois with gimmicks over show accuracy and posability personally.

He's definitely better than T30 in just about every way but compared to the OG he has a bit of the same deco problem(if to a lesser extent) in that he's just too r e d. like his torso should be mostly black and grey with red&yellow accents instead of mostly red with black and yellow accents. That and the lack of grey on his booties are the most major deco issues I see. Nothing major like the omission of his little buddy, and I still think he looks sick as hell, but it's something I noticed. it's weird how between the two T30 mold decos and this new one none of the updates have quite managed to get the deco right. Legacy is the closest so far though

The alt-mode is a fucking travesty. The massive hollow front shell, the giant block of kibble, the fact that it's literally Skytreads top half transformation who is a Delux Duocon. The fact that the wings look stupid for no reason. The color choices are questionable at best. Yes you can find a comic where those colors are correct, but you can find just as many where they aren't, and the previous Jihaxus model didn't use those colors either.
The thing that makes this stand out in harsher contrast is that the Bot mode, is fucking great. Very few hollow parts from no matter what angle you look at it, good posability and he generally looks good like this.
You just can't ever display him in his Alt Mode because the cockpit is just hollow and has a transparent cockpit so you can see that it's hollow no matter what angle you put it.

His character is a big part of why Armada is fondly remembered. He's a very different take on the typical Starscream character, and ends up being similar to what Dinobot was to Beast Wars. He's the noble warrior type, whose "disloyalty" to Megatron is that he's more loyal to his principles than his leader. It leads him to eventually join the Autobots, and yet he still doesn't give up on trying to redeem Megatron, even willing to sacrifice himself in the process.

Plus, there was weird sexual tension between him and a teenage anime girl, so something for everybody, I guess.

Never saw Armada (or any of the UT - I was a Beast Wars kid, and stopped watching Transformers after Beast Machines), but I like this design. Sleeker and more interesting than Starscream's usual appearance, and as I understand it, this was one of the better iterations of the character. Might consider grabbing him.

This, on the other hand, bugs me (no pun intended. Ok, maybe a little). On one hand, he looks great; on the other, they fucked up by making his booster into his gun for some reason. Not only does this mean he can no longer fly around raining death from above while cackling like a lunatic, since he shouldn't be able to fly with the booster detached, but the booster itself doesn't seem to be capable of even attaching to him, and certainly doesn't stow away in his abdomen in Beast Mode, leaving it awkwardly sitting on his back instead. What a shame, since he looks great otherwise.

Kind of. The intellegence is in the PAK, but the host squishy body seems to have differentiation traits like "eyelashes" and curled antennae in some. It might just be cosmetic since thier bodies are artifically grown.

The claws on the farthest joint on the ant mode's front legs.
That, and maybe a new TOOOOOONNNN head, were all they had to improve but instead they went onto reinventing the wheel and came out with a weird egg-shaped thing that barely rolls and can't be attached to anything.
Like, the original BW Inferno toy didn't even have some crazy low toy to cartoon accuracy rate like Dinobot who only shared an altmode with the toy; it had an stellar beast mode and was very cartoon accurate despite of what it was demanded from it.
Say anything about the old one barely transforming but it was exactly because of that that it dealt with leg kibble so well.

I've never seen this show or read the Botcon stories about Antagony, but now I can't help but imagine Legacy/Gen Selects Antagony as the Uzaki-chan of Transformers even though I'm pretty sure those two are very different, so now I'm imagining the old Antagony facepakming at the sight of her bubbly anime girl counterpart.

I've got a few criteria:
Featured in Transformers: The Movie - Bit of a G1 tooner fan but almost entirely because of the movie.
Is Shockwave or can be used as a Shockwave drone - I fucking love purple robots.
Anything teal/pink and looks like a monster or animal - I am an absolute sucker for these. They're maximum cool.
Tiny/core class guys - they're cheaper and make for fun photo ops.
Armor sets - After getting Siege Shockwave and Kingdom Magnus I've started to like this feature. Weaponizers like Slammer fall into this category.
I mentioned a thread or two back that I was planning a tabletop strategy game and all the various groups above have been giving me opportunities to brainstorm. A Transformers: The Movie strategy campaign that ends with an alternate final battle with Shockwave after he found out who Unicron was and started arming himself and fortifying his command post instead of getting squashed off-camera? Fuck yeah, let's give him some boss armor and drones. That's the end goal, at least. Congrats Hasbro, you snagged me again after a couple decades and I'm turning your toy catalog into a playable toy catalog.

Looks like there are pluses and minuses to each.

On the Takara Legends, I prefer the white over the gray, the lower legs are great with both colors instead of all solid black, the yellow on the chest looks better on panels instead of the rim of a hole, and the cleaner detailing on the molding for areas like the forearms and thighs is nice.

But on the Legacy one, I think I prefer the properly colored black and yellow shoulders, rounded shoulder launchers instead of hexagonal, the coloring/detailing on the cockpit canopy, and the fact it looks like they did a better job hiding the hollowness of the forearms. I even like the swords better in this release, even if the regular one still doesn't come off the wing (but then again, neither did the T30/LG version, so that isn't exactly any worse) and even if the Star Saber looks kinda small, it's a nice inclusion.

I just wish getting steps forward in improvement in some areas didn't always inevitably seem to involve steps backward in other areas. Why can't Hasbro seem to be able to make some things better without making other things worse?

Nah, like I said earlier - I actually LIKE how Inferno looks (and I love that they gave him an actual articulated robot mode jaw for maximum unhinged laughing capabilities); my issue is that they conflated his gun with his booster, which leaves him incapable of flying while shooting in robot mode (which was his whole thing in the cartoon) and leaves it placed awkwardly on his back in beast mode instead of stowing away properly.
And again, I also like the new Starscream, even though I never saw the show he was from and never owned either of his previous toys. Sure, it's not the classic, boxy, bland grey-red-white-blue F-15 interpretation of the character, but I like the sleeker design and the fact that he looks like he has less of his bot mode hanging of of his underside than the Earthrise version does. I have no idea why people are giving both of them so much hate when the molds themselves look pretty good.

Not even remotely. He was designed for the comics well before Hasbro designed the T30 figure. In fact, even though there was a lot of forcing Hasbro releases into the comics (T30 Starscream, Jhiaxus, Goldbug/Goldfire, all the WfC video game designs in RiD before that, and so on) during that time there was also a surprisingly high amount of Hasbro basing some of its toys on the IDW comics instead of the other way around, which we saw with the releases of Brainstorm, Swerve, Trailcutter, etc.

Supposedly there were plans to make a Metalhawk toy based on the IDW design (who knows if it would've ended up being a half-baked remold of T30 Starscream, or its own original mold), and even though these plans were eventually scrapped, they were in response to his appearance in RiD, not the other way around. But IDW still adjusted their stories to fit with Hasbro's plans, which is why they briefly brought Metalhawk back to life in Dark Cybertron (despite it having such little impact on the story), because they thought it would help promote his toy, not realizing during the writing stage that the toy was doomed to cancellation.

And the Beast Wars Lazorbeak is a recolor of Terrorsaur. When you stick a bunch of characters in a series in reference to other ones, you encounter overlap issues. Same reason why they used the name Flashpoint for an Inferno reference because Inferno was used elsewhere.

Yeah, I know, but the anon I was responding to was acting like Buzzsaw was just some name the Allspark Almanacs came up for a previously unheard of G1 Laserbeak recolor instead of using the name for what anon was treating like was the name's supposedly original purpose as a Waspinator recolor. In other words, he didn't sound like he realized G1 Buzzsaw predated BW Buzzsaw by well over a decade. That was the issue, not whether or not names get reused for other, dissimilar characters, causing overlap. Bringing up Lazorbeak as a recolor of Terrorsaur would only be relevant if the book had used Buzzsaw as a name for a Terrorsaur recolor since a Lazorbeak had already been recolored out of him, which would've been weird enough to make it worth noting, but to my knowledge, the book didn't do that.

The whole reason that ended up happening was because Hasbro gave specific instructions NOT to push Buzzsaw or give him too many appearances. The logic was that he didn't need advertising, since he was included with Soundwave by default; meanwhile, they wanted people to shell out for Ravage and Laserbeak, who were sold separately, and thus gave them more screentime. As a result, those two are the ones who are more easily remembered and thus the ones who get bigger roles while Buzzsaw, the actual original character the mold was made for, was left in the dust.

I assume they made Laserbeak be Soundwave's main bird in the cartoon in order to encourage kids to want his toy. After all, if Buzzsaw had been the main bird, kids watching the show who had Soundwave would've already owned him and not needed to ask their moms for another one in a different color.

Most "G2" fanart or custom versions of characters make G2 repaints seem like they're just brightly colored for the sake of it( some are but there is interesting stuff like G2 sideswipe being an inverted colorscheme), but this is fucking great.

Because molds need to take into account both size and color distribution. I'm assuming that when they planned the molds, they couldn't fit it into the red one but had space over in grey so that's what we got.

An upside down jhiaxus with retooled cockpit/chest would probably work pretty easily too
but if they go the IDW route, cyclonus would be the best base.

The other factor of course being, will the robot mode look like the inner robot, outer shell, or both? TR got a very inner robot version, so we might be seeing the shell this time.
If that's the case, I could see them using the ER seeker mold again.

Personally, I think someone at Sunbow decided Soundwave had too many black/red/gray tape guys, and broke it up by swapping in the Frenzy color model (done after script & voice recording, but before final animation) - and they just leaned into that particular choice ever since.

he was 9 steps, but he has more overall bulk, but came with 2 battery guns and a tape, and a working tapedeck. So if rumble doesn't need the tape or door, it's easy to that becoming 2 extra guns and the battery guns becoming pile drivers.
I guess if he's an eject retool he might work out to be 9 steps.

Transformers Generations Thrilling 30s Thundercracker

I honestly can't remember if I own either of the other two.

It still isn't super good but there's something about the FoC jet mold that I like a lot more than the car molds.
The more I think about it the I think maybe Thundercracker might be my favourite of the seekers.
The silver and blue just looks so good. This silver Hasbro uses for Thundercracker always looks so good.
Throw in that little red strip on the wings for an extra pop. Can go wrong with just that little splash of pink showing the energon-y insides.

Obviously they wouldn't work very well but from a toy perspective I love the enormous oversized gun under the wings.
No landing gear on this plane but I guess that wouldn't make sense on a Cybertronian jet. Why have landing gear when you can just stand up instead?

Transormation is nothing special, you've all seen it. I do like the extra hinge in the back that collapses the rear half an extra step upwards and inwards.
And then how the collar bone pieces smooth out the whole look.

I'm not sure why we were *so* down on these FoC guys. They're turning out to be okay at worst, except Brawl, Onslaught, and Swindle.
Thundercracker may be hollow if viewed from the side but he still have deluxe class mass, a good amount of paint, and style.

Articulation looks to be ahead of the curve for its time.
Thundercracker is rocking the complete standard array of movement, plus wrists, double elbows, and ankle tilt.
No waist, but how many seeker molds manage to fit that in? Like two?

Your best option right now is just not transforming the Studio Series one.
To my knowledge there isn't a proper cybertronian version of this guy yet but the robot modes between the start of the movie and the end were pretty close anyway.

I wonder if Hasbro is planning on starting over with cassettes after core Rumble.

Since the G1 numbering system rebooted before reaching the 400s (and skipping a lot of numbers like pretty much the entire 200s), you could easily have a character with D-459 as a liscence plate without issue.
