Most of their shit is on the "close enough" spectrum. I don't think anything they do is even close to 1:1 on TV show representation. This is why I don't care about the differences some of the MP Transmetal BW figures that other companies have, because even the official releases are off by a little bit.

To clarify this anon, it's a bunch of standalone shows released one after the other, after Japan finished Transformers Victory and the short-lived Zone OVA. The first show Exkaiser had antags that were retools of the Dinobots and so on. Difficult to show how similar yet different the designs can get... I guess one animorphs-tier toy of "here's two forms that you can shift between" of similar designs might be doable, but any "here's Lamia and he can turn into all his forms" thing would be immensely difficult. Lamia's v slim and his forms are very bulky and varying. Maybe as a pretender..?

i will admit the brown is quite a nice color, and it's roughly show accurate. the problem is the gray they used as the "non-striped parts of the skin" color. which they didn't even apply to the arms and legs.

I'd say it's a bit more than that, but you are correct. SS86 hotrod's hips are handled far better, and I would've liked to see optimus have those as well, but I guess the budget just wasn't there. Buttwheels are also unsightly considering it's his only real peice of kibble, so it stands out like a sore thumb.

It's a bunch of little things, they might just be nitpicks, but I can't help but be put-off by them. Such as the weird leg proportions, buttwheel kibble, lack of any real leg transformation honestly, and most importantly to me is his face severely lacking in paint. Would it have hurt to at least paint some baby blues on him? You can't see shit, and this was carried over to the g2 legacy prime as well, so I just don't think they care anymore.

That's too much money for me, honestly. I just want a ss86 voyager/leader optimus that fixes some of the earthrise's issues and looks the part. New head, correct paint, hopefully fixing the hip and leg proportions, and that's about it. I don't need a trailer, really, especially if it's gonna bump the price up substantially.

Hey all! My Core G2 Megatron arrived a week ahead of schedule, so here he is! Like I mentioned during my Core Shockwave review, I don't really care for getting Core versions of all of the main cast - just the ones that are exclusive to the size-class (Rattrap, Vertebreak and Iguanus), or ones I can find a valid excuse to justify putting with my bigger bots (The Shockwaves being repurposed as clones/Targetmasters for Galactic Man Shockwave). In this case, this little Megs is my stand-in for Megastorm, since I skipped the Earthrise version for having a horrible face and that ridiculous 'sword' that was even worse than the Siege one.
Ignore how squat he looks in this pic - I misjudged how high I was holding my phone and was too lazy to retake the shot.

He's pretty much the same as his bigger counterpart in terms of articulation, minus the ankle rockers. Megs comes with his standard Fusion Cannon (which rotates but does not seem to be detachable here) and a small blaster; I was more amused than I should have been that his blaster is molded to look like a scoped Walther P-38 pistol, exactly like his original G1 transformation. Small Megatron is basically armed with an even smaller Megatron - it's Megaception.
His pistol can be placed into either of two pegholes on his back kibble for weapon storage, but putting it on his right side makes it resemble the gun barrel that's usually seen on his back; what's more, by intentionally mistransforming his kibble with the gun in storage, it can be brought up over his shoulder (pic related) to kinda-sorta resemble his G2 toy's (and Megastorm's) shoulder-mounted cannon, though it's a bit on the short side. Sadly, the pistol's iron sight on the tip prevents it from being compatible with blast effects, though his fusion Cannon works with some of the smaller ones.

Tank mode is pretty good - they actually did a better job with him than they did with all eight(?) of his recent Voyager releases. Without that pesky sword thing in the way, his gun barrel can be rotated up and down in addition to the 360 rotation, giving him some much needed articualtion. Sadly, Core Megs lacks the wheels in his treads to allow you to actually roll him around, but I'd honestly rather have a mini tank that can actually aim its turret properly, so it's not a big deal. There's also enough clearance to spin his robot head around so it's not just blatantly there in plain sight hanging from under his chasis like the Voyager versions. He's got a G2 Decepticon symbol on his left side, printed on a visible orange square, which is pretty neat, too.
The one slightly vexing thing about him is that his pistol was sculpted in a different colored plastic from his Fusion Cannon, meaning the parts don't really match when you put them together in tank mode; it should have been purple. Also not a big deal, and it doesn't affect playability in the slightest, but it's a thing that might peeve some people.

A neat little Megatron with a neat little paint scheme, and while he's obviously much MUCH smaller than the Ultra-class BWII Galvatron, I think he makes a nice Megastorm stand-in; the small size makes it easier for Galvatron to bully him and makes his Trypricon upgrade a bit more meaningful in hindsight. As fun as he is, G2 core Megs is most likely the last Core class figure I'm getting (outside of any future Pretenders - We're getting Skullgrin at some point, right?). Still, he's worth grabbing if you want a decent little Megatron and are a sucker for 90's era neon color schemes.

i think we want an important character to get his own mold, while we're just pleased the recolor guys get made at all.
terrorsaur being an airazor redo is lame, same with skywarp because he feels kind of important and that's not the best fit for him
but getting mutant tigatron is awesome. for one thing it's cool to get an orange tiger. and this was never a character we knew before, just a beta toy we'd seen pictures of.

well that's the thing, how hard could it have been to just change the tooling to work the other way? they had to remake at least 50% of the toy anyway
just engineer it so it's the reverse of how airazor works. the ptero tail becomes the robo chest, and the robo crotch becomes the ptero chest. you can recycle all the limb parts you want and everything will work just the same, but it'll be more like the original toy and require less plastic for that fake chest part. which you could put toward filling out the heroically broad ptero neck he had in the show.

I used to just use some basic bitch gluestick if I wanted to hold them back on. Works pretty well. If you're willing to spend some money, you could look into replacement decals from reprolabels, I guess.

It has inaccurate proportions, but I really love the identity the mold has on its own. I think it's a fantastic take on the concept of "transforming big rig robo", and at the original MSRP of ~$140, it's a brilliant toy. I have the Nemesis version to and I will never sell either, even if a technically "superior" G1 Prime gets made.
