I swore the guide had a link to a site that had a reprint/release history. But maybe someone linked it in a previous thread and I can't find it anymore. The site let you select the kit and it showed the full history of its release/reprint and if anything changed. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

A lot of Revell, MPC, and AMT brand kits you find in chain stores like Michaels and Hobby Lobby have at least one sprue pre-painted in chrome, but every other sprue is left unpainted. These kits tend to be in 1:25 scale, even with recent toolings (e.g. 1969 Chevy Chevelle SS 396).

Won't lie, I've been snapshitting a few HGs and it's been very enjoyable. Most I do is sanding, buffing and panel lining. It's relaxing and only takes an evening to put a kit together.

Complete with thick armor to shrug off any attack and armed with a 120mm Cannon, the Aestivalis Artillery Frame is designed to deal immense damage from a long distance. Made by NERGAL Heavy Industries to protect Earth from Jovian Invaders and piloted by the likes of Akito Tenkawa and Ryoko Subaru, although this one has the all purpose head unit. As shown in one of the pictures, all Aestivalis come equipped with an interchangeable core, however the pilot of this unit has foregone the typical flight unit attached to the rear of the core.

Designed for base defense, the GM Wachund boasts heavy chobam armor, support treads and flaps for it's extra weight, and additional vents to help mitigate the sheer heat produced by it's basic operation. The Wachund sports additional gundanium armor plating on top of it's already front loaded leg armor; because the Wachund always has it's back to the base, the pilot needs not worry about damage from the rear side of the unit , but this is, admittedly a large weak point for the unit, overall.

Armed with the Type 44 Anti armor cannon Scramasax, as well as the massive Honigbiene minigun, the Wachund makes sure to create an impassable line of defense on Federation bases, following tragedies that befall the likes of Jaburo and Torrington. Mounted on the left arm is a beam spray gun, hidden underneath armor plating. The backpack contains 6 canisters for it's active defense system as well as 6 miniature canisters on the Scramasax for added protection against dummy fire missiles and human sized anti armor ordinance. A lone beam saber of extended length rests on the backpack of the unit as well.

The Wachund's pilot, with orders to fight to the death, has one last means of defense: a total heavy armor purge. By ejecting it's chobham armor, the Wachund can increase it's overall speed and mobility, as well as open it's secret compartments containing 2 80 calibur miniguns, and 6 shoulder missiles. It's additional face mask armor contains a small vulcan for anti missile defenses, as well as an enhanced antenna and telescopic, secondary main camera for sniping units and/or providing artillery cover with the Scramasax.

Not really for the Groupbuild, but I did make it so this was still able to be turned back into a Knight as well as Atharvan (Wizard mode). I really enjoyed working with Frame Arms even with the issues I had along the way.

Alright, now for Groupbuild themes. I saw quite a few interesting ideas this time around, to the point where I can't copy every theme I'm putting in the next poll in a single post. Here is the current list so far: https://pastebin.com/UYJm8ut7
A few notes on some of the ideas that got suggested
>Superheroes/Tokusatsu
There was a bunch of overlap here so I combined the two into a generalized Superhero theme
>Boarder Gundams
I went with the other anon's suggestion of making it a generalized Sports theme, but I included skateboarding in the description in spirit of the original idea
>Cosmonaut
I'm really hesitant on including this one since I don't want to see another Deep Space build situation.
>Super-specific stuff (ie: EWAC, Zeong)
I'm not including these as they're too narrow in focus, and not everyone has a Zeong laying around.
>Melee
We did a Melee groupbuild all the way back in 2017, so I didn't include it in the poll. If people feel that it's been long enough since then to allow it then I'll put it in the running
>Mecha Musume II
This however I'm not including since the last one was only a year ago. Maybe a few more years down the line we'll do another.
>AMAIM/Kyoukai Senki
This got mentioned a bit on both /m/ and /toy/. Although it's a bit narrow in scope, there's quite a lot of variety of kits here to work with and they seem to all be in stock over at HLJ
>General Occupations
I'm teetering on this one. May include it, might not.
Anything I didn't mention either got in, was too specific, too similar to another theme that got in, or wasn't even worth mentioning.

We're already pushing it at 24 theme ideas, but I'll accept any last minute ideas for the next 10 hours or so so I can have the theme voting poll ready tomorrow.

That's mine, thanks. The core of it is the Frame Arms Durga II RE:2 (Picrel is the snapped Durga II before I did any customization). With lots of Koto Modelling Supply Goods parts (Alnair Rod, Magia Blades, and some small parts from EX Cannons) & 30MM parts (mostly for the drones).

-Looks like it was made out of playdoh, genuinely can't tell if it fits the theme or not.
-Doesn't fit the theme. Like, seriously, why is there a wizard in a "heavy armor" category? That shit doesn't even make sense.
-Doesn't fit the theme, bad paint.
-Those freehanded stripes look awful, but otherwise it's fine. I didn't like them at first, but using logs as improvised armor like an old WWII tank grew on me pretty quick.
-Would be a great idea if it didn't look like somebody had glued aquarium decorations to a gundam.
-Doesn't really seem like it fits the theme. There's "armor" there but it mostly just looks like it exists to facilitate the transformation, not because its protecting anything.
-Fits the theme but god damn is that thing ugly. Does it at least transform to explain why it looks like a rejected Cubix design?
-Went way, way overboard on the camo. Other than that, probably the only one that really understood the theme.

Okay, I finally "built" the Daban V2 Assault Buster Gundam.

It was certainly grueling. But I have finally given up on this build. I'll post my experiences, what I find infuriating and what not when building this.

First things first, the Daban kit I built has a few missing clear pieces, mainly for the Assault Buster parts. I think it is a simple packaging mistake (I once bought a Daban Sazabi ver Ka with parts to make 2 chest but only 1 leg)

When you buy this, you get a fee action base 1.
the fits are very tight where it needed to be. and it copies the MG kit as closest it can be. I don't know how accurate it is, as the closes accurate Daban kit I built was the Hi-Nu and it was 100% copy except the hands.

So this means whatever problems this Daban kit has, it is most likely present with the Bandai kit as well.

the kit itself is very nice, no bad fits. a lot of the parts are undergated, but since this is a ver Ka kit, you have to really sand down the nubs because parts will not fit together if you have nubs preventing the pegs connecting.

but the thing is, the kit is very heavy due to the difference of the plastic they use compared to Bandai. making it harder to sand down the nubs. with the Gundam MK.V, I used a 1000grits hardware sandpaper, for this V2, I had to use a 250grits hardware sand paper just to sand down the nubs.

Other than that, building the thing was smooth sailing, until I got to the Assault Buster parts and the hips.... oh my god, the hips. the design was more complicated than Zeta. you get a piece with the Assault Buster kit to lock the left and right hip together, and I suggest to glue that to keep the hips together unless you like to transform this. but who like the V2 AB transformation?

The worst part of the kit is unfortunately the Assault Buster parts.

the leg armor and the back armor are just connected by small latches. I recommend just glueing them to the body.

the shield is okay enough, not that heavy. but the mega beam rifle is too heavy for the V2 to handle. partly because the thing is too heavy (most likely Daban plastic is the biggest contributor), and also the bicep/deltoid connector is too shit. Bandai could have fix this with their release of the V2 AB upgrade kit, but they didn't. I swear the PG Unicorn has the same problem. You can easily fix the problem by inserting a small PC part in there to make connection more secure if you have a spare PC from other kits.

the hyper mega bazooka launcher part is where I lost my mind.

just putting it on the back is a huge hassle. the kit always explodes when i try to put it on, and the biggest problem is that the part is dont have any peg or latches to connect to, you just have to slide it in with the backpack. It was infuriating.

basically, the MG itself is 8/10, some questionable design choices (why ball joint on the hips? a 2015 kit and still using ball joints?) the deltoid and bicep connector is a problem. the head is designed with a sideview seam when MGs stopped doing that since 2.0, infact, the only MG i remember using these are Victory and Gundam MkII 2.0

I feel like the kit was designed during 1.5 era and just partially upgraded with 2.0 standards.

still amazing though. I think the biggest problem I had was it cant lift the beam rifle and the mega beam rifle, the arms keep falling off, and the mega beam cannon is infuriating to put on. other problems can be fixed by gluing it together.

gonna wait for that anon that got a real Bandai V2 to see what he thinks of it.

Daban Gundam FA Thunderbolt is actually even better than the Bandai as its subarms can actually hold the shield better and the arms can lift the double beam rifle

Look at what gets posted in these threads. Gunpla being snap-fit and colour separated encourages straight building. You snap together a model tank out of the box and it looks like shit, it requires a number of techniques that people in this thread find too intimidating.
The vast majority of gunpla builders put the parts together and call it a day, minority of these go as far as panel lining and topcoating. If we're lucky, someone will post a painted recolour or kitbash in this thread, but the attitude an average gunpla builder has towards modelling, and the amount of work they do are extremely different to /smg/.

Hell, not one poster in this thread entered the groupbuild, either. This isn't a thread for modellers, it's a thread for toy collectors.

I'm not going to pretend to be the arbiter of what gets posted where, I'm just stating my opinion on what currently gets posted.
Gunpla from the 80s is much more of a scale modelling endeavour but it's still gunpla, so fits in the thread.
On the other side, most scale models that don't fit in /smg/ belong here, as that covers Koto/Wave/Moderoid, etc. so it isn't too limited in variety, and they're all (roughly) around the same build level. I guess it's better to call it fantasy or sci-fi plamo in that sense.

Anyone here good at building Semi Trucks? I've been building the ATM/Round 2 Mack Cabover Cruise Liner and the frame is slightly twisted, so if you place it on its top or bottom its never flushed to the ground. Its one corner or the opposite corner is always up. Now I have three rattle cans and a heavy candle holding it down at both ends on my window sill so that the sun can warm it and hopefully weaken the plastic and straighten it out. So far nadda.

these have next to no related story at all, but are designed to be modular so all the kits are compatible within the series. pretty much are just bionicles made out of polystyrene and is compatible with generic model cement.

Mostly display. You can paint them and then put them into a diorama and show it off at modeling competitions. They have articulation so you can pose or use them for light play (don't ham hand them).

I think for Gundam kits some fans did make a game for them, but yeah they really are just fancy knick-knacks. You can make a game for them if you want.
Actually for the 30MM series of where your kit comes from, Bandai hosts little competitions on twitter, where people pick a faction and post their builds for that faction, and somehow they determine which faction gets the most posts and who wins the current "battle".

Mostly Polystyrene. Some kits will occasionally use ABS for joints. There are joints parts called polycaps that use a much softer plastic, and you will sometimes come across special parts like certain hands or cables that also use this softer plastic.
You can actually check the back of a runner to see the material used. PS for Polystyrene and ABS, etc.

30MM don't use ABS but they do use a few polycaps. It's the small runner of the 6 polycap balls but those are polycaps.
ABS usually pops up with the pre-molded joint frame runners on RG kits which use different types of plastic(I know these are also being phased out, but they're around)
Anon might pick up some older kits that do use ABS and polycaps, so it's worth knowing, but yes most new kits try to go for all polystyrene

Hangarbay is fucked expensive. Sideseven is the cheapest you can get imports if he has them. But again that depends on if he has them.
I've had good experience with gunplastyle. Not sure if its one guy or what but I get stuff shipped out the day of or next day and its usually the cheapest there just doesn't get a ton of stock.
I've also had good experiences with newtype and gundamplanet, although GP tends to be more expensive than other shops.
Usagundamstore is okay if nowhere else has the kit. Although they're usually slow to ship. They also seem to not have 10% codes anymore so I have less reason to use them now.
Also ordered from lunartoystore sometimes its cheaper there have had good experiences
