Piss off, toy Dinobot was one of my favorite figures as a kid. Long after Dinobot died in the show I played with him imagining he was a clone copy and thats why he looked different.

Nah, I liked the first one but I never grabbed it. I only really wanted the grape ape anyway. It's the way the paint apps look in photos and reviews I have seen. It just looks off to me.

lots of real gorillas do have a hairy tummy, but I think Primal looked way better with the smooth tummy in the show, which other gorillas have.. there was no real good reason to change that, the 'frontbuttflap' would have worked just as well colored to be skin.

It looks more like Nightbeat's vehicle mode, but has Jazz's transformation scheme. IIRC T30 Nightbeat was originally going to use RTS Jazz as the base before ultimately being Bumblebee, so maybe they were going to run that concept back with this one.

I've come around on the Prime redesigns for exactly the reasons you've articulated, but it does sting that everything has to be homogenized into a shitty animation-error prone style from 100 years ago instead of letting the franchise evolve in a meaningful way.

Transformers Beast Wars II Galvatron

This is one of those Sonokong reissues that showed up everywhere in the early'10s

We'll start off by looking at his least interesting form; a big pink and purple drill tank
He's got a big drill end that has a button to make it spin that is very satisfying to push.
Galvatron has also got double gatling guns and a few tiny castors on the underside of the treads that I have trouble telling whether they work or not.

The drill tank mode is the least ornamental of the three and I also recall it being the least used in the show. From the half that I watched.

The transformation here does a good job of looking like a lot changes but in reality very little happens.

Can't help but feel there's just a little Deathsaurus DNA in this leader class leviathan.

So other than being a big kaiju monster what are this toy's strengths?
The neck for sure, way more posable than you might expect from a toy this old.
Actually the articulation all over ain't too bad. The legs are fully articulated as well. So those in combination with the neck can get a few poses going.
But really this entire toy's sale pitch rests on you thinking it looks cool.

For a few negatives; even as weedy as the arms are they're still being cucked even further by the golden drill bits.
The kolossal knee kibble. So so much mass stuck in between the skinny thighs and stick-like calves.

The best reissue line. It's like they managed to work out GPS out of the BW2 figures with that release. Apparently only the Sonokong release of Magnaboss never suffered from GPS the American and Japanese release did. That's pretty much the main reason why I got that one lol. In a stunning feat of engineering... most of Galvatron's stuff just gets thrown on his back.
Which you would think would make him incredibly back heavy. And it does. But Galvatron's drill ends up being a third legs that keeps him propped up.

You see what I meant when I said the drill tank was the least ornamental? Galvatron's chest is just one step down from Gigatron's.
I feel like his head is just a bit too big. Sort of the opposite problem this type of toy tends to have.
I have to mention that the pinchy claw tail parts are on spring launchers but can't feasibly be pointed forward in any mode.

Get this toy if you thin it looks cool. I got it for 30 bucks back in 2012.

Kingdom Tracks would be great if they just copied the g1 toy transformation. Instead they did that complicated bullshit with the legs which makes them hard to transform, they barely stay together & the ankles are hollow, just to look like a bad 80s cartoon with simple artwork.

Sideswipe does this too, having things unfold instead of just pull down, but at least it's not a complete shitshow for the end result.

And Motormaster/Menasor is complete trash.

The thing you're forgetting is that all the major attempts at evolving the franchise hit a dead end. The bayformers collapsed after AoE, the aligned continuity died and even on the comic side, which is tradionally where G1 designs get modern updates, IDW shit the bed.
And this all happened back to back in the 2010s. The pendulum simply swung back to G1 because it was the most safe and reliable thing Hasbro had.
And it's going to stay that way until a new movie or cartoon introduces a bold new style and becomes a smash hit. But risk taking is not the name of the game anywhere right now.

Not actually sure if mine was one of those reissues, but he certainly doesn't seem to have any issues with GPS, so...maybe? I still handle him with baby gloves just in case. I love his dragon mode's neck flexibility, but I feel the beast mode arms needed a bit more articulation - balljointed shoulders, maybe. You're right about the robot head feeling too big, but it's not so bad. I do feel that they should have made his missiles a bit longer, though - he's supposed to be able to hold them like hatchets when you're not shooting them, but they're severely undersized. He's still pretty fun, though.

Surprised I was able to find this figure out in the wild. My target and Walmart get so fucking cleaned out. Also impressed how they made a non-coomer friendly female TF and managed to make it aesthetically pleasing. Also am I correct in assuming that the extra mushroom peg joint on her backpack bits is intended for this type of setup? I didn't read the instructions, I'm just assuming it's not in there because no one else mentions it anywhere I've seen pics of her and googling doesn't turn anything up.

I usually fucking hate the Studio Series figures because BB Prime was a letdown (his legs burst into treats when you try to pose around with him) and the tank movie Megs would fucking fall apart when I would transform him. I should have bought more of the deluxes when I had the chance but I was waiting for Arcee because she was more unique than the others.

Overall this is one of the better Figures over the last few years. Highly recommend.

Outside the Voyagers and a single Legacy Blaster reissue at a Gamestop, I've not seen a single Legacy figure at retail save for Blaster, Galvatron, and Laser Prime. And now, my local Wal Mart just got in the god-awful deluxe repaints of the Beast figures no one fucking wanted in with all of the pegs filled with about 3 cases of them.

I'm pretty much fucked at this point, to the extent that I'm probably going to have to do what I did during Power of the Primes and just motherfucking order the entire case of Legacy figures for every wave that comes out off of BBTS, in order to get anything.

Weirdly I prefer the IDW design? Like not totally but I tihnk the colours are nicer, but this figure seems to be a fusion of the IDW body with the colours of the non IDW flamewar? I forget what continuities she’s been in. Like what they did with Minerva. Tread and circuits had a perfect colour scheme to go with the design but Hasbro changed it to match masterforce which looks a bit odd considering how the mould looks

Flamewar's only been in comics and mobile games and shit.
She's had two main designs, the original Energon Arcee recolor and the Prime Arcee recolor.
Legacy is based on the Prime version naturally, which has become her definitive design, though some like IDW tried to blend the two toy designs, like giving her Energon's shoulder wheels.

Slicer coming with the Downshift guns was a nice thought but the likes of Goldbug and Blurr really needed their original looks.

Shackwave is a good deal since regular Shockwave is over MSRP. I think it's because of the color difference more than anything that Shackwave is less desirable.
Both have third party kits if you want to put him in gun mode a little better.

The original wave of shattered Glass figures having a varied look was so much more interesting though. Now everything is just the G1 version, but different colors. I liked the implication of the different looks; Like in the SG universe , Bumblebee prioritized power so he got rebuilt into a stronger Goldbug form early, or Starscream keeping his Cybertronian form, and Megatron using Energon Megatron's tank accessory as his roller expy were all really clever.
I also liked that while the SG universe resembled G1 on the surface, it was more of a mashup of all existing universes up until then.

Oh, that's because they changed the tail in the final production
The original design had the back of the scorpion/base of the tail covering up the hips and thighs, where the actual production had it much smaller, with the hip and thighs exposed.
The tail is dramatically different so I'm guessing the change of engineering was related to that

oh yeah that's the other thing. he's got unevenly applied orangey-tan wash on parts of him that look garbagey unless you add more of your own, so get some appropriately colored markers or some other form of ink, and dilute heavily with water and finish the wash yourself. that's what I did anyway.

well for example they did like his hips (the part that used to turn into the tail gun) but not the part of his back touching his hips. and they hit his cheeks for some reason instead of his forehead and nose bridge, the way it should be.
anyway, ink washes aren't that stressful. you can always wipe some off if you think you added too much. it's all just blending and adding more til it looks right. totally different animal from painting with acrylics.

Don't think I've really painted at all before is the issue, as well as buying paint for literally just this fella

and if you look at tigatron's model, and the masterpiece toy, you can see that. he's a bit more off-white where a tiger would normally be orange
this toy attempted that, but they did a clumsy and half-assed job of it.

true enough but i mean like, markers have other uses. you can still write on boxes with them afterward.. if you make a little puddle of alcohol in a spoon and dip a cheap brown sharpie into it, maybe with some red and yellow mixed in, worst case scenario you've merely ruined a cheap marker. granted those fade over time, so that's not ideal, but it's still a cheap option to get him looking good.

Got BA as a gift, Wingfinger and Vert are nice, Huffer's ok, but made the mistake of getting Kingdom Arcee on a small instead of large sale. For whatever reason, the bots I gravitate towards and end up buying, are the ones that reliably get sales and stay in stock for some reason

His face sculpt could be bettter. They nail the upper part of it, but then totally neuter his chin. His shoulders sit back like an inch behind his neckline which looks retarded, as does his four sizes too thick crotchplate (especially is you try to utilize his waist joint).
That aside he's a passable Togatron, and they're never going to bother making another one.
