Simple answer is to take advantage of hype and strike while the iron is hot. Even if two companies aren't really competing because they offer a wildly different take on the character, it's still smart for them to release it while everyone has that character on the brain.

That being said though, I don't know if you can really say these two are being done at the same time when IF has shown off their samurai Grimlock something like a fucking year ago now and NA only just showed theirs off a month or two ago and still won't actually release for a few more months still. IF finally nearing release is less bandwagoning and more of IF just being IF and taking forever to take something from render to release.

These figures have very little in common visually in either mode. This is more of a happy accident than deliberate, I'd think, unless NA really thinks IF is a threat with it's entirely different design and scale for no reason.

Really this shit only happens with NA/MS and FT/anyone who makes MP's. They do it to deliberately undermine each other.

I don't have the trailer, only the Nemesis repaint which lacks it.
But it did come with a hitch for the trailer, and the only way to get it stuck in the tabs is to plug it in one tab, then shift the untabbed panel until you can press the tab in it.

the roller has a fold out nub for the trailer already though

I don't think I'm all that sold on the entire team but Berserk Fuhrer Grimlock is baller as fuck and while I know that Sludge is technically taking an extremely lazy way out with the neck and tail, it still works and looks cool as massive whip arms. It's almost a shame he has actual bot mode arms because they would look really unique and interesting and evoke shit like those older unconventional super robot villain designs, not to mention it would change the entire way his silhouette reads and really give off the hiking bruiser impression.

Why do I have to remove the smoke stacks, head, and hands in MS Ultra Magnus? The shoulder pieces could have easily had space for the smoke stacks and the hands fold in already. The head could have been a helmet too

this is the most autistic thing i've ever asked on this website or any other, but I'm trying to find a particular part or something similar to it and I can't for the life of me find it. The Bingo Toys shockwave figure (Wave Man) has this long slinky thing as a cable for the gun and I've been trying to find a replacement or something similar to it because it seems like the type of thing you'd be able to just buy but no such luck. I've tried looking up springs, coils, slinky, small, narrow, micro, every combination I can think of. Far as I know Bingo toys doesn't sell replacement parts so I can't get it there either. Has anyone seen anything similar to this? I think some other shockwaves use a similar part but most seem to use a ahrd rubber hose which is a different effect. Pic related looks like soft plastic but I assure you it's a tightly wound spring that's oddly loose which gives it a unique quality I'm trying to keep.

This probably the closest thing I can think of for a replacement hose, I don't know what else you'd look for to find that particular kind of loose spring hose. The MP Shockwave uses the same kind of hose too.

To make things worse, Flametoys figures also tend to have giant footprints, more than MP figures, really. My StarSaber eats up most of a detolf and a significant part of my long shelf case. So even thought here's less of them, they take up a lot of room.

As someone who's owned drift through prime one *could* argue that it's about quality over quantity but at this point for the price of one flame toys peice I can get two to three other high end peices like a 3 A or a chogokin. I think the bigger reason is that FT is one of the only MP companies still actively making stuff, and the 5 minutes each figure is up for preorder makes even attempting to get ahold of them inhumanly irritating.
The variety of 3p in general has shrunk horribly the last 3 or 4 years too. All we really have is 2 scales of sunbow MPs, IF doing their own thing, the new wave of chinese government sponsored propagandabots, and MMC doing the slowly shrinking pile of IDW picks. I realize this is mostly just me pining for CHUG shelf gap fillers, but man it is hard to be hype for much nowadays. Only thing I'm interested in right now besides shit I already have preordered is the Gustav.

Honestly Blackarachnia is one of the few characters that's better off being completely redesigned for a third party figure, something along the lines of Bingo toys Windblade or Nicee would work.

What makes you say that? TransArt actually looks like it's taking the Nicee approach where you don't need to remove anything but you can take pieces of the backpack off if you want. Hard to say about Future Toys but >>9942249 really looks like they blacked out quite a bit and aren't giving the full story of what the backpack looks like. You can tell something is there since the spider legs would have nothing to attach to otherwise.

I assume you meant to say "good g1 Megatron masterpiece". If so, I keep saying it but MS could fix that easily by just giving Doomsday the same upscale treatment they gave to their Prime. Or maybe it started as MP and got downscaled to legends... I forget. Either way, my point still stands. Doomsday scaled up and with some tweaks to add sculpted detail and engineering to further clean things up could easily be THE definitive and first GOOD G1 Megatron MP (also preferably with the red inner calves).

Is there an actual market for the current Generations scale third-party figures or are the audience for those figures pretty much exclusively interested in the draw of those larger scales?

I personally don't own any third-party figures and my collection is entirely the official toyline, I'd be much more interested in a figure if it kept roughly the same scale as what I have and could display it with without it being too out of place. I'm curious if there's any other anons who share my opinion or if I'm just autistic for thinking that.

I think the desire for 3p gen scale figures died out due in part to the PWT just absolutely sucking shit as well as the IDW run that was primarily fueled it going to shit/ending. The former was because the trilogy was just all in all a super low effort and overall poor quality series of lines that made it not worth collecting much of and everything looked cheap and shitty against any existing gen scale collection. People wanted 3rd party to fill in the gaps and expand their official collections but when the official lines were so bad it drove people to stop collecting the scale in general, there wasn't much for 3p to fill in or add to anymore. The latter was a case of more lost interest since IDW designs were the big thing folks even wanted gen collections for. The IDW runs turning to shit killed a lot of interest in the characters and even the designs (not to mention Hasbro was pushing designs towards the toys for half of it) and then it ending altogether just cemented that since nobody saw a point anymore since they knew the next aesthetic was going to drastically shift. Price was also a factor most likely since gen scale 3p was starting to hit MP scale costs and folks jumped ship to MP since it got them more bang for their buck.

Now that official is actually back up to being (mostly) decent quality, we may see 3p start taking interest in it again, but with that new aesthetic being G1ified everything, it may be a tougher sell since MP and legends scale were already doing that. If we were to see it happen, we'd absolutely need to have some new blood step up to the plate since the only companies known for touching gen scale either died out, shifted focus, or are still dead set in something specifically different. It's more likely the only gen scale love we'll see from 3p will be in the form of add-on kits. I'd even argue that SND is gonna have a tough time with this because its aesthetic sits well outside of both current and even previous gen scale.

With new collectors starting with WFC and Legacy they're eventually going to start wanting nicer figures in that scale and with Legacy potentially leaning heavily into stuff like UT and Animated we could very well see companies cropping up to fill the holes Legacy wouldn't be able to fill (Armada Overload, Animated Sentinel, etc.)
With how many people already buy upgrade kits for Hasbro figures (kits sometimes being more expensive than the figure itself) its pretty clear there's desire for nicer CHUG scale stuff.

That's the thing though. Prime Wars may have been filling out checklists but Prime Wars was overall a fucking awful trilogy. Articulation got worse, partscounts and complexity dropped, quality of material tanked, and so many characters just wound up being cheap retools of other characters. It was just an overall garbage line. WFC picked up the pieces and has been a massive improvement but it filling gaps doesn't have much to do with things because 1. 3p CHUG was already as good as dead halfway through CW and 2. as said before, WFC is a drastic shift in aesthetic. CHUG was very IDW inspired/esque designs but WFC and now Legacy shifted things pretty hard towards a stricter G1 look, just with more detail. WFC/Legacy is filling checks but it's also effectively starting the list from scratch. Even for a line that's projected to run a total of 6 years, there's going to be gaps. The question is if any 3p company will be willing to predict what those gaps will be and hop back in. I still don't think it's likely but we'll have to wait and see. I think it's possible though due to the official line bringing interest back to the scale where it had originally flat lined.

This, really the idea that people stopped buying Classics style figures because the official ones got too bad is stupid. That should mean there's a bunch of Classics figures being made if anything
Truth is most customers are willing to compromise on a mediocre figure over spending $90 for a niche character who's mostly known for being part of a combiner. There's a reason most Classics scale combiners ground to a haul after CW.

After 18 years of G1 targeted nostalgia lines, the thing I've observed is that they're the most successful when they focus. Alternators was going well doing G1 cars but updated until they started doing stuff like Grimlock and ravage as cars. MP really took off when they decided on a scale and going for G1 inspired designs over a mix of updates and comic inspired ones. Classics was a shitshow in terms of selection and direction even if the toys were good, for three lines until PW mostly decided to update all the combiners, all the G1 headmasters, etc. That makes it harder for 3P to find stuff to update because the customer base that might buy a $80 Sureshot will be more inclined to buy a $22 retail one.

I think its really more the US and Japanese audience. 3P when it was less international went for more redesigned stuff; look at the beginning and stuff like City Commander. And even now there's a push for experimental stuff like cang toys and that Aerialbots set. Now that the G1 MP toon market has mostly been satisfied and saturated, you start seeing less, but a bit more experimentation.

I just bought a knockoff because it lacked paint. take note 3p. all your paints will chip within a a few months of regular usage.

I'm not buying painted figs anymore. the effect is minor at best, and figure ruining at worst.

Those examples you gave are more to do with the makers. The Japanese are really anal about IP infringement to the point that their unlicensed 3P designers keep themselves anonymous. With all the stigma surrounding this, most of them have moved on to making original IPs instead.

For CANG or rather the Jiyi Co. family, they went hard into making stylized, non-IP-fringing designs after that big Weijiang Drama. Things like JX's accurate BW stuff and Nicee are benched for CANG zoids and Mooka.

Said it before and I'll say it again. Properly colored plastic > fully painted. Paint is for details, metallics/chromes, and parts that had to be cast in a certain color. If something looks cheap because it wasn't slathered in paint, it's because cheaper plastics were used and they should have used better plastics.

The sad thing is that not even the G1 design, detailed or no, is considered the evergreen design according to Hasbro. This shit right here is. This is their gold standard moving forward and what every new Prime design is meant to look to fit inspiration.

That being said, my ideal Prime design is actually MP-10's aesthetic. I know, gorilla arms... But that's why I say aesthetic, because everything else about its design sensibilities is recognizable, classic, iconic, and will never age poorly, especially not compared to the corporate sterilized new age official evergreen design.

The gray instead of black just causes it all to bleed together, the abs look like nothing Jazz has ever had, and they fit some reason changed the iconic blue on his hip skirts to white with red. It's not even just iceberg either. There's so many cool original TF designers who's designs are screaming for 3P releases and they will never get made. The only company other than BigFirebird that tried that I can think of was Trojan studio and it sounds like they are already going under.

I don't think their bloated backlog is due to the lack of manufacturing capability, they have about the same number clients as they did in 2021, with DST in and JX out.

Rather their slow 2022 output is because they are mostly based in Guangzhou city which got hit really hard by their lockdowns in March. Even if they could expand, the most likely factories they can acquire are still in Guangzhou, all eggs in the same basket.

We already know the legs are gonna make the car mode look like crap. And apparently where the top of the thigh meets the hips will be slightly color-mismatched. Paint vs plastic colors not quite matching I can get, but plastic vs plastic is a bit more baffling. Though I suppose it could come down to how dyes react to different chemical compositions.
