I don't know how easy it would be to find fluorescent oil paint. I believe Testors and Gaia make fluorescent enamels, but they may not be easy to find either.

You could also get fluorescent powder and mix it with white oil or enamel.

Pretty easy. Find enamel paint in huehue you want. Take a brush and put a small drop of the paint on/in a container, glass or metal prefered. Mix in a few drops of zippo fluid and stir, adding small drops of zippo fluid in until you get a consistency that will freely run and drip off the stirring tool.

Essentially thats all tamiya panel liner really is. Just a bottle of it.

Tamiya panel liner uses harsher solvents than lighter fluid, hence the damage it can do to acrylic paint and plastics. Mixing your own is a better option.

yes, it used to take me a day to snapshit a hg together with gouges and scuff marks and shitty marker panel lines
now i properly build and paint my kits and it takes at least a week, and sometimes up to a month for an mg. i don't consider it tedious though, it's more fun and the end result is 10x better. just bought some drills and scribing tools so it's going to start taking even longer, and will get even longer when i get into plaplating. you do not get faster at this hobby, over time you get slower because you get better, take your time, and incorporate more and more techniques into your build

Yeah, this is definitely true. My problem is scale, and just getting things to look "right". Also color selection of paint. For instance, this skirt from the char's zaku 2. I wouldn't know what color to use for weathering on the skirt. Silver looks weird, but black looks fine but have gotten criticism from it saying it looks burnt. idk, i'll eventually try to "master" it.

I think, gunpla are the only model kits that really don't need any weathering. I mean they look better if they are clean, like fresh off factory.

and if you want to do weathering on gunpla, they are better off on OYW era MS.

I mean, just look at this Unicorn, its weathered, but why? Unicorn only got hit once in the whole series. and it was because Kshatriya blew up the gatling gun he was holding, chipping off the shoulder armor.

I even once saw a heavily weathered F91. It was beautifully weathered, but why? F91 is a flying unit, doesn't make sense to weather it that way.

I think gunpla, most of the time would be better off with shadowing, instead of weathering

"Weathering" is not automatically "rust" though and even in space things can get chipped and scratched if they bump into each other.

You have to think about what is underneath that paint. And as far as I'm aware it's a steel color (in universe) so any kind of silver, gray, steel should honestly look fine. The color of it will depict how "fresh" the damage is as well. In general shinier = fresher. But black looks fine too it just has a different effect. Like the other anon said these threads are ripe with shitposting retards for some reason so try to ignore them

It could be argued, but gunpla in particular more toylike due to the emphasis on articulation and interchangeable accessories. For example, I'd say those die cast Burago car model kits would fall more under toys more than the usual model, due to the way they have working steering and suspension and roll well. How static a kit is in its completed form is really what determines how I would categorize them.

Gunpla really good even without weathering, compared to say, tank model kits. I mean, MG ver Ka model kits looks worse when you try weathering them.

You can weather your gunpla, sure, but gunpla looks better with a good paint job and decaling and panel lining

I got a glass file, mainly for the interior frame peices due to how it adds glossiness. But it very quickly got caked in residue, dulling the sanding surface. With sanding sponges, I hit them with compressed air and the residue came out. But it's not with the glass file. How's best to clean off the residue?

I have a fond memory of going to san Francisco when I was young back in the 90s. One of the malls had a shop dedicated to gunpla and I had never seen or heard of gundam before, but I but a couple of them. Never saw them again till they started appearing at hobby shops. Nope. The hg revives are hit and miss because naoki does the redesigns half the time and makes them skinny and shitty looking. Bandai views them as less important since theyve already done them before. Revive 78 2 looks like a figma gay anime boy like kirito cosplaying a gundam. The gm ground type was a fucking disaster that head is super off model and ugly, the colors are washed out, proportions are shit, its over detailed and the legs and feet are just wrong.

Gundam ground type revive is one of the few good ones that come to mind.

Mg 2.0s are pretty consistent, with the exception of like, the alex being completely off model (random geometry)

Revives are about as consistent as play arts at best

I'd recommend checking out the different ways of finishing models by different subjects, out of interest or to try a fun change of pace. There's absolutely something to be said for factory fresh, pristine models like you see car guys do and you're advocating for, but a filthy, battered tank can also look fantastic. Maybe try dirtying up an amphibious unit as though it's seen battle after creeping out of a swamp? Even something as simple as just making some panels slightly lighter/darker to break up the huge, uniform spaces to give the model some greater sense of depth and scale.

Zeta, MK2 all reek of katoki and are pretty slimmed up. Same story for the SEED 2.0s. Zakus lack the goofy 079 proportions and gelgoog is fairly detailed. ZZ and Wing zero EW are literally Katoki'd.

I'm literally looking at an MG kit, nothing says "Kit must be painted (not included) to be finished." In fact it does say "Colored parts give the completed model a color scheme close to the original, even without painting." indicating the kit is produced and sold, without the need to paint a single piece and that it is entirely optional.

CA cement on the pin solidifies in under a minute. Plastic cement (if you used any) is ready to sand in under 10 min. By the time you took that picture your joint was already fixed and ready to go.

Cut away details from existing IBO head. Replace with your 30MM pieces/plasticard/tiny spares/etc. Or just get some cheap knock off sets and claim the heads/other spare parts to work with in your Frankenstein endeavours. I keep getting tip dry from acrylics. Are acrylics just a meme or am I doing something wrong? Flow improver doesn't seem to change much and I tried with both high/low psi and less/more thinning. I've read that vallejo's thinner tends to speed up drying, but this happens with water+flow improver too.
