Questions: 1) Where can I get a QRD of what was talked about at the SDCC panel that (I think?) was today? These threads are getting a little hard to keep up with right now. 2) Why are there two MOTU general threads right now? 3) What happens in 13 hours? I see Camo Khan and Eternia on the MC page but will these actually be going live? If so, I will make sure I lunge for these sales BUT if they're liable to sell out quickly like Wun-Dar did then I'm not sure which one to go for first. I'm thinking this will be Camo Khan's only chance to be bought while Eternia might get a wider release at some point? If so, it might make sense to try and get Camo Khan first and then try to score Eternia. If the case is even going to be that they are live in 13 hours...
Anonymous
>>9928552 1) I haven’t seen the panel, I think it was just interviewing important people from motu’s history. The one showcasing upcoming releases will be tomorrow
2) The other thread has a terrible bait image so a new one was made
3) I’m pretty sure that timer is just for the convention exclusive He-Man and Skeletor Masterverse two pack
Anonymous
>>9928552 >1) Where can I get a QRD of what was talked about at the SDCC panel that (I think?) was today? Oppenheimer introduced it in his Skeletor voice. The known guests talked. The secret guest turned out to be William Shatner, who will voice someone in Revolution.
>2) Why are there two MOTU general threads right now? Enough people are triggered by She-Ra 2018 that they demanded a different thread to post in.

Mark Taylor was able to look at the artwork of Frank Frazetta and clearly see the potential there..."Holy Fuck! This shit would make some great fucking toys!aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" Don't get me wrong - I like the extremely weird ways in which the toyline evolved as much as the next guy, but I strongly feel that the roots of the franchise are to be found in the artwork of, specifically Frazetta, and then if you want to follow the trail of the guys that inspired him, probably you could look at the work of guys like Burne Hogarth (Tarzan) or Hal Foster (Prince Valiant). And of course, while taking away nothing from Alcala, Norem and Kelley, and giving them the proper respect that they deserve for setting millions of imaginations on fire in the "bronze age," of the 80s; I think we must go back to the source - the REAL source - which clearly lies within the mind and deft fingers of Frank Frazetta and to be more specific, his work on the pulp Conan covers. For this is where He Man and The Masters Of The Universe was truly born, in my humble opinion. These other artists were good, great even, but Frazetta's work was on a different level; there was (and is) a kind of visceral madness that is pervasive within the work; a sense of genuine desperation and urgency to it that somehow transcends the fantasy of gazing at an illustrated image and transports you into another world in which you can practically taste the sweat and smell the blood - or maybe taste the blood and smell the sweat? However, I feel like those early Alcala comics and just the general idea of the whole thing, and I'm talking pre-cartoon here, was hinted at and touched upon before they pivoted into the more kid friendly stuff; give me the full Frazetta treatment please and thank you.
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>9928607 Alcala, Earl Norem and Esteban Maroto all came to Mattel's attention because of their Savage Sword of Conan work.
So like, no shit Frazetta is better. Marvel was scouting the best artists in that style **who would work fast enough for little enough pay**.

>>9928607 On the whole I think everyone can agree with what you're saying--the influence of the Conan franchise (and Frazetta's gargantuan presence within it) on MotU cannot be overstated. There simply wouldn't be any MotU without it.
However, I'd make the argument that, despite Conan being MotU's foundational roots, the franchise--for better or worse--didn't truly have an identity of its own until we got the Filmation series and the weirder toy characters.
If you take away the "cheese" then what are we left with? Canon the Barbarian with some sci-fi bits? Make absolutely no mistake, I think that sounds awesome, but is it enough for a franchise to stand on its own?
I'd like a more adult take on MotU, but how do you do that without just making Conan the Barbarian again?
I don't think we're the only ones asking these questions. I bet you 100% it's almost exactly what Mattel is trying to answer with New Eternia: they're cutting straight back to the source in both lore and character designs, in what are undoubtedly the closest things we've have to the original art and comics since... the original art and comics. Whether or not they do anything with this beyond figures and character bios remains to be seen, but I'm excited for whatever they have planned.

>>9928634 Ok....Well, I'm drunk so please forgive me, or bear with me, or whatever.
Let's say, for instance, let's look at the back of the cards; where, it seems like, a lot of times, the characters seemingly run into each other while patrolling the borders of the nation states within eternia, or whatever; and they fight!
But like, what would really happen if, say, Beast Man ran into Teela during one of these encounters?
They would fight, yes; and then Beast Man, after overpowering Teela by virtue of his size and brute strength, would, in all probability, proceed to violently rape her.
It's in his nature. He is literally called, "Beast Man."
Ok...so, naturally, this pisses off all of the "good" warriors, particularly her father and suitor/lover (he man of course), and so now they've got a good grudge match going.
To complicate things even further, Teela becomes impregnated, and gives birth to, I don't know, fucking Stratos or whatever....
Point being; boom! fuck you Motu writers, get your shit together, I just made that up off the top of my head in 5 seconds and it's better than the last 40 years worth of dogshit you have vomited out - give the fans something different that they can sink their teeth into.

>>9928714 Ya lost me. If a MOTU comic, even an adult comic, came out and this happen it would rightfully be mocked for being too edgy.
Not that a sexual assault would never happen, but I feel like Teela, being a hero, shouldn't be the target of it. It's a fantasy world, it's not like Teela needs to have the strength of a real-life woman of her size. Presumably, if she's strapping on armor and heading out to battle, she can hold her own.

It costs, on average, 10-20k per minute of animated footage so a 2 hour movie would cost around $2.4m. We'll round that up to $5m to make sure that all the combat scenes look awesome, clean up all the animation, and there's no derp in any backgrounds.
$1m on the script (writing, re-writing, sending the worst writers on a one-way trip to some random third world country, etc.)
After that, I'll spend say... $10m (with leeway for a bit more if Dolf refuses) bringing back as much of the original cast as I can, to either voice their original characters or to be cameos.
Another $1m to cover additional VA costs, because fuck it.
$2m to cover crew fees, more if I can manage to get enough suckers to fully delegate 99% my duties, leaving me to only have to sign off/check on the occasional thing.
After that, whatever is left over is mine to claim for having to wrangle that shit-show.

What you do? it sounds ridiculous, but I'd take a page out of the sonic films playbook. essentially the first third of the movie would be heman on earth reconciling with the inhabitants of that small town from the first film, before going off and doing actual motu stuff on "eternia" (aka some random deserts and forrests in the american south west, that were recolored in post). Skeletor would return as a partial cyborg as a nod to laser light/new adventudres, and his whole motivation would be unleashing the horde on eternia through the use of some cosmic radio tower macguffin. Heman and friends defeat Skeletor but remain unaware of the horde until the last minute, and then the sequel hook would be Hordak being informed of Eternia by some horde troopers. Most of the movie would look like Van Damme's cyborg anyways, since that film kind of is a sequel to canon's motu.

Set an alarm to grab Cobra Khan/Eternia in case either of them went up for sale. Nope. Just that He-Man VS Skeletor so I figured I'd grab it since I woke up early (for me) As cool as the set is, I'm on the fence with keeping it so I'm thinking of reselling it. Or I will just hold on to it and re-sell it several years down the line when it might actually have more value and it's not as scummy as a flip. So this is the best quality concept art we have of the early She-Ra design often called "He-Ra" (an early name idea for her). She-Ra went through a shitload of different designs and they quickly decided that she would be He-Man's sister rather than his girlfriend/lover. You'd think this was a design quickly forgotten given how fairytale princess She-Ra ended up looking.
Anonymous
>>9930790 However here is that design (with some modifications, like being more covering in the midriff) in Tom Sito's storyboards for "Battle for Bright Moon" the final part of the She-Ra introductory story. So I'd like to see a first Princess of Power. Maybe the First Ones were Eternian astronauts and she protected Etheria in their time with a modified second Power Sword, but there was a "Recall" spell to Castle Grayskull if the owner died with it rather than passing it to a successor.
Light Hope did say "Welcome She-Ra, Princess of Power, long have I waited for you", which is otherwise just fantasy mentor word salad.

So the Masterverse news,
Revelation Sorceress Lyn. Comes with her scepter. Soft goods cape.
Revelation Roboto. Comes with 3 interchangeable arms, cannon, laser gun, and regular hand. He'll also come with the 2 halves of the Power Sword in a glowy deco from when he reforged the sword. His jaw will also be able to move. Roboto and Lyn both looking great.
Stratos and Frosta are also a part of that wave. The picture they showed is the exact same one from that leak a while back.
They also showed Shadow Weaver who comes with what was shown. Those bare arms will be hidden underneath soft goods robes for her arms. They said she has articulated 'legs', but I think they just mean she has a socket that goes into the ball of her stand.
