We had a pretty entertaining thread on Square Enix's line of figures that hit the bump limit, partly due to the announcement of an original style FFVII Cloud Bring Arts figure. Feel free to use this thread to threaten to firebomb Square Enix's headquarters and lament the fact that they have still never released an articulated Kefka figure. New FFVII Bring Arts Sephiroth coming soon!

Don't give up hope, Brave Fencer Musashi was one of the great games Squaresoft released in the PS1 era, Xenogears and Vagrant Story, 2 other great Sqauresoft games during the PS1 era now has Bring Arts so you can never tell and they migjt make one.

While I am really happy FF7 characters in 1/12 scale is now happening, I researched a bit on the line as I haven't bought anything toy/figure related from SquareEnix(last I bought from them was PAK Ryunand Chun) and it seems they release ver2, so I was wondering if it will happen to Cloud too?

Anyways, still happy as Bring Arts Tifa is guaranteed to come out soon, my dream of having a 1/12 scale collection of my video game waifus(Chun-Li, Kasumi, Mai and Tifa) is going to be completed soon!

Cloud has swivel shoulders and ball elbows, Barrett has swivel shoulders and if I remember aeris does too. But it’s not like they look good doing anything other than the poses you see in the box.

Honestly no. I can’t imagine any way they approach FF6 without fucking it up. Amano’s art is not going to translate very easily to a figure, and going off the in-game sprites obviously isn’t an option. aI don’t want ones in a vein similar to the dissidia Terra they did, which is probably what they’d do instead of trying to make it work.

Not really, Japan doesn't seem to care much about 6. And the West fanbase of diehards who were staunch defenders of it being the best in the series seem to have died off and stopped caring about the franchise, such that arguments between the old games are fewer than they used to with a lot of talk being focused on the ones that came after like 8,9, even 10 and 12 these days. It certainly wouldn't sell the numbers that 7 Bring Arts are gonna make but it would do better than Tactics and that's getting figures, though, so who knows

I'm probably in the minority but I'd love figures that tried to capture Amano's art. Even if they weren't 100% perfect, just an attempt at his style would likely end up looking really unique and stand out on a shelf. The most likely scenario for figures of sprite-based FFs is for them to base them on modern renditions though so they'd probably end up a bit more generic anime style

Yeah that does suck. The only BA I have that I really don't like is the 1.0 version of 2B. I rolled the dice and got the 2.0 version and it was much better. Also I don't like the hair on my Kaine and there's a few messy paint apps but overall I don't hate it.

That's not worse than the first 2B. They were actually improving after the first ones and nowadays most of them seem to be like figmas with worse joints are wonkier paint apps at a higher price. Not worth the money they cost at all, in fact I'll say it's one of the most ridiculous overpriced lines out there, but if you really want articulated figures of some characters your only choice is to bend over.

This, SE doesn't let other toy companies make toys of their IPs so everyone is forced to buy from their own toy brand, last time they did let other toy makers use their IPs was during the 90's with Bandai making figures of FF7 -FF9 characters, at that time, Square was still Squaresoft, the merger with Enix was a mistake

SE probably gave up on chibi figures as they already tried multiple chibi lines but all failed, but along with the Bring Arts Cloud reveal, they also showed a new chibi line spearheaded by Cloud so I guess maybe SE found out Chibi figures of their IPs do sell based from the Nendos from their IPs

I have her too. Not an impressive paint job, but she's still pretty. First time they ever got her face right. The nendoroid is great; only problem is that she still doesn't have Rainfell. I really hope Aqua/other KH characters could be done by Kotobukiya someday.

This is the only reason Square is allowed to get away with what they do. Final Fantasy, Tactics, their MMOs, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, Vagrant Story, etc, if you want ANYTHING involving Square's large cast of characters, it's their way or the highway. Depressing. I'm part of the problem too, because the moment they announce an Aya Brea figure, I'd be the first in line to preorder it.

Play Arts and Bring Arts aren't as messed up as KAI but still, it would be better to try and look up specific figures you're interested in to see if they scale instead of just buying them in hopes they will all work together

I fucking hate PAKs, but this meme has always come across as disingenuous. I know it's really old, but I've seen it used more recently unironically despite how outdated it is, and a few of those pictures in the meme don't look as bad in-hand when they don't have a camera with super harsh lighting shoved in their face. Kinda reminds me of that guy who would repaint the Metal Gear PAKs and in his comparison pictures put ridiculous lighting on the original paint job to make them look worse in order for his own paint to look better than it actually does. Nowadays most PAKs are shitty because they're $200+ for a top heavy piece of shit that you can barely pose, not because their sculpts and paint apps are bad

I got a bunch of the Nier ones and they are not as "premium" as they would like you to believe. They all have weird hair, and while they all seem to have the right number of joints, many are hindered by location and placement. Pretty much the only great thing about them are the Machine Lifeform's paint jobs. But their alternate legs suck.

It's more outdated than disingenuous. For a few years they were REALLY bad with strange shiny plastic, poorly painted faces and a bunch of IPs they clearly didn't have much investment in (Deus Ex, Uncharted and Star Trek ones were particularly bad).
They are noticeably better now. They are still worse than their price tag would suggest, but they don't feel like knock offs anymore. Now they are just sub par and make you wish someone else could get the IP.

Well, yeah. That's because in the remake they doubled down on making her look asian, hence her remake figure looks asian. Originally her ethnicity was a LOT more in the air. Couple that with a last name like Lockhart and it's no wonder a lot of players subconsciously thought of her as white.

I'm surprised there's no mention in this thread of the Vagrant Story figures that came out earlier this year. That was peak heinous Square. Two Vagrant Story figures were released side by side as a two pack, each figure costing $100, making the two pack $200. What does your $100 per six inch figure get you? Yeah.. it became pretty apparent pretty quickly Square made these for the sole purpose of appealing to die hard fans of the game, charging out the ass for the them and not really putting the effort in since they know the small audience the game has would probably pay any price for figures from the game.

I'm so glad I cancelled my pre-order and waited for in-hand pics/review vids for this. I like the IP a lot but $200 for what's essentially 2 x $45 figures (at most) is crazy. And the plastic quality looks so low that it's honestly sad.
Not sure if these will ever bin (seem to be pretty tough to find), but if they slash it down to $100, I'll bite.

I can't believe this is an actual discussion with people actually thinking FF7 characters are meant to be either fantasy-race aliens or elves or whatever or just plain good ol' Amerricuns or Nips
Nomura designed the characters back in the 90s to look Westernized because they wanted to go in the opposite direction of Japanese-designed characters and RPGs. But that doesn't make any of the characters fucking American nor does it make them Japanese or whatever because those don't exist in the game.
All you can go by is the artwork and in the artwork they all still look like anime characters and Barrett's the only one who can actually be seen as a different human race since Yuffie has no facial features different from those of Cloud, Tifa, etc
As far as everything else goes, it's irrelevant because it either maintains the anime style for regular models like in Crisis Core and Dissidia or uses high-end models based on Japanese actors which is why they all have squinty eyes in FMVs and the Remake and shit like that
Ever wondered why FFX characters all look like chinks in FMVs even though they're not actually supposed to be just plain Japanese? That's why, it's the actors that are used for the captures
This is like people arguing about Goku being white or asian or whatever. Doesn't exist in his anime world where characters have sameface syndrome and he's a goddamned alien anyway

That being said, I'm pretty frugal all things considered, so I never wanted to pay the high aftermarket prices for these figures. Does the head come off? If memory serves, you can remove his mouth so that his mask can be inserted on to his head, but I don't think the head itself comes off. Unless you mean his mask itself you're having trouble removing.

Pretty good honestly. Tifa has no clothing inhibiting her movements, and joints like Cloud's arms were engineered in such a way so that he could do his iconic poses like holding his buster sword behind his back and so on.

Depends how patient you are looking for a good deal. For less than the price of the new Cloud Bring Arts figure, I got all three of these. For me that was a great deal. But it's not uncommon to see the original FFVII Tifa PA figure go for 100 USD in box, even if it is used, so you'll have to take your time and really look around.

Unfortunately, historically, your only hope is to contact Square themselves and they can contact their figure division and send you a replacement part. However, this only applies to figures you recently purchased, and purchased from them. I've never seen anyone sell replacement joints for those kinds of figures.

Got this new Squall for pretty cheap since the box was in such bad condition. Now I just need Rinoa and I'll actually have all the original FFVIII figures. Not really. The entire first act of the game revolves around it. You start the game up, and the entire plot is about taking down this corrupt megacorporation government for the first several hours of the game. Obviously that gets cut short when Sephiroth shows up and murders the guy you're trying to stop, but the entire premise of the game up until that point is about the party being the resistance to Shinra, and even though the story drastically shifts once you leave Midgar, that premise still isn't completely dropped throughout the rest of the story

They're 15+ year old figures that sold for less than 30 USD at the time of release. They look good for what they are - unless you're referring to and unfamiliar with the original artwork the exaggerated features like their hair are based on. They're pretty spot on and faithful to their original designs, save for Selphie's somewhat derpy face.

Call me a retard but I've always wanted a Kingdom Hearts 2 Riku figure, and lamented that we've never gotten one. In the original KH2 figure line, we got fuckin Kairi, but no Riku. We got a KH1 Riku, multiple figures of his uggo KH3 design, but never one based on his KH2 look, which was my favourite design of his by far. Well, call me an uneducated twat, because apparently six or seven years ago, a KH2 figure DID get released for him. Somehow it totally flew under my radar. It doesn't look half bad either (the KH2 Sora is nightmare inducing though). Was super stoked seeing it. Let's just say.. mistakes were made.

For mine, at least, the Chocobo can stand on its own if you position the legs right like in that pic. Despite being ratcheted, they aren't tight enough to support the weight of the body if the center of gravity is off and will just collapse under it. It's a great figure, though. I don't have Shantotto.

I don't know about the midget, but the chocobo is quite stable. Even at somewhat bent angles, the legs will hold heavy figures well enough for a photoshoot. If you want to leave it posed for a longer period you'll have to choose a straighter pose like the pic you posted or use the provided stand, though, or it may eventually yield.

I don't care for Final Fantasy, but the chocobo itself looked like a very nice toy and a very nice mount for other lines. I think it attracted quite a bit of attention of non regular Final Fantasy/Bring Arts customers.

Oddly enough, while these Vagrant Story figures were rather unimpressive, the Xenogears figures were surprisingly nice. Maybe the Xenogears releases were more of a passion project for the team. I would have had his eyes be a tiny bit farther apart, but other than that I have no major complaints.

I think it's a Mythic Legions figure of some kind.

I couldn't believe how autistic their design was for Terra. More specifically, how they handled his leg articulation and skirt. It resulted essentially in the figure from the waist down being totally unarticulated.

For whatever reason these Xenogears figures are pegwarming pretty hard and cheaper than they were on release, so I picked one up. I like it a lot actually, poses well and comes with quite a few extra hands, an extra head, and some nourishment. I will not say the nourishment's name on this imageboard.

I got the full set because the price for the added accessory wasn't too bad. But in all honesty, I hate Shantotto, have always hated Shantotto and will always hate her. The fact that she'll probably be the ONLY FFXI figure ever made just makes me like her even less. So many better characters and designs that could've gotten figures. Hell, I'd kill for a line of figures in their AF1, even for the jobs I didn't actually play.

There was also a Y'shtola who wasn't super awful. I mean, there's a lot of little things about her I'm not super fond of (small head, long wrists, stuck ankle rockers, scary tight tail socket) but overall she's a nice figure.

True story, I actually don't like XIV, and only bought Y'shtola because she was super useful early on in an awful FF based tablet game I play. There's also a laundry list of characters from said game I would love to see figures of, as they're pretty much the only reason I play it.

In other news, apparently Ramza has shipped out and should show up by the end of the week.

In other news, Ramza just showed up, and he's actually pretty fantastic. All the joints move well, he's got great ranges of articulation, he stands super solidly without the base and his cape actually works really well for it's wonky articulation. If the rest of the Tactics gang are this good I'll be very happy.

I do wish he had more accessories though. It's just a few hand options and his sword. It's a nice solid sword though, but for what he sold for it feels very bare bones.

I just got my Ramza also. Very good figure, great range of articulation, knee joints are cleverly hidden, stands great on his own. I do share the same sentiment that I wish he had more accessories. Mainly some more facial expressions. Speaking of his face, it didn't really transition well to 3D. He looks like he has a fat face and puffy cheeks. That's my only nitpick. Can't wait for Delita now.

They're just really well hidden, but they give his knees the ability to almost fold completely in on themselves. The only real issue with his articulation comes from his hips. His tunic is too firm and hangs down over his legs, but his thigh high boots will collide with the tunic if his legs bend too far forward.

It does. It's a simple claw stand, but I have it holding him by his cape joint so it's less obvious. The only other Bring Arts I've opened, Y'shtola, also had a stand.

I also have the Zidane/Garnet set and the Chocobo set, but haven't gotten to play with them yet.

Yeah these were bare bones. For the girls I can kind of understand it, but for the protagonist he should have had a lot more accessories. Have you seen the Bring Arts for the DQXI protagonist? He comes with like a dozen accessories.

I'm happy they're finally putting FFT characters out...I do sort of wish they'd done the faces a little different. The noses look so strange, but FFT had such unusual, unique art that would have definitely been hard to replicate properly in 3D, as it almost always is, anyway.

Also, wish they would have done his merc outfit from chapters 2 and 3, since that's the outfit he spends most of the game in, but they're just insistent on using his chapter 1 cadet outfit anytime he appears elsewhere, and I never liked his cadet look.

Nope. Not at that pricepoint. At least include a single damn weapon. Given the Dragon Quest series' whole schtick of endlessly re-using iconic weapon designs, they should just be molding a bunch of them and shipping them out with every figure. A big, interchangeable accessory line-up could have added a lot of incentive for collectors, but I guess they're just really super confident about how hard they can jew their fanbase to death.

Yeah, the DQXI figures they seemed to go all out on. Of course then they played dirty by boxing some in pairs. Shame they never made Hendrik, though.
