As someone with a big interest in castle, and who has their childhood 6086 (thought by many to be the pinnacle), frothed the forest hideout GWP & got 6, has 2x creator 3-in-1s, I think the new castle is great. It's on order, but I don't need to have built it to know it's better than 1, 2, 3, or 10 3-in-1s. And I have 2x 3-in-1s. So it's not a case of "the one I have is the good one"; I'm getting both. My 3-in-1s will be a custom, because honestly the creator castle main build is unattractive- the greens, the dark grey, the colours. 10305 all the way.

Both castles are better designed castles than any castle before them. Pic related was my first major set. I didn't keep it assembled on a shelf. I built countless castle MOCs myself from the age of 5 or so.

I only have the highwayman & troubadour out of that lot, and got them both off ebay. Sometimes ebay including shipping is easier & cheaper than bricklink, but since you want so many, I would definitely try and find a bricklink store with heaps of CMFs and try knock out as many as you can in bulk buys. Even if they're more expensive in one store, consider the overall savings e.g. shipping

Its not perfect, but its good looking and mega parts bin. If bb is 10/10 than castle is >8/10, i have to see for myself closer when it arrives, but for now i dont like the ramp, other side of top of the gate (seriously, i see it also with other people 3in1 castle mocs, whats with open wall type rooms? It looks bad and just screams 'i need some support' like 1 or 2 columns. Also i would arrange some rooms diffeently, mainly it lacks royal bedroom and some type of throneroom. That being said its still most elaborated castle to this day, the chambers in 3in1 were just funny as in mix of new city buildings and old castle chambers, also I hate tall towers that stand on 1x1 column bricks. Of course lions castle could be better, but its lego, you can and should improve and customize it or just scrap it and build your own version, thats the fun stuff after you build model A. Thats being said i really hate the rise in price and the trend of exploiting nostalgia in form of making small amount of set in place of a real space, pirate or castle line. I wont speak about tm stuff like marvel, potter or other disney shit, because i didnt have any nor dont plan to buy in them in future. For me lions castle, barracuda bay, space explorer and some 3in1 are the best stuff I can get. Its all better than 95% of the stuff which released in last 10 years, lego is souless corp that just wants your money, but hey if you plastic crack addict, you gotta enjoy best product.

I agree with what another anon wrote before: that it's a €400,- dollhouse instead of a big traditional Lego castle set. Most of the knight are also female btw.
This is my opinion as one of the many adult castle/space fanboys, but in the end I'd get a lot more fun out of two Galaxy Explorer sets.

The dollhouse argument is right, all modulars suffer from this, i even think that 3in1 castle is more of the dollhouse than old time castles, its just 6yo dollhouse vs. 10oy dollhouse. The size argument is just stupid, the castle is huge, if it would be any more spacious, it wouldnt fit on most furnitures beside the tables, the only solution would be modularity, like 3in1 castle but tuned up to 11. Galaxy explorer on the other hand is a large ship that you can turn into 3 different ships, but ypu need 3 sets for that. A model is on big side, a little to big for my liking to make some scenery for it that would fit and look good on shelve. Having said that its a bargin for 100dol, shame i dont have nostalgia hardon for classic space.

It's not intended as an argument or bait (see: Bionicle drama). For the same reasons you mentioned, I personally don't mind the warrior queen nor female guards that much, but it's a little bit too much on the nose to just count as "Castle lore".

Agreed, But designwise, the 3in1 is a bit of a mess. For example: I would have preferred an oxcart or something instead of the blacksmith (pirate), wel and dragon. I bought this set mainly for the parts and minifigs

It is an "icon" set and not a traditional castle theme for kids so you take that in account.

I would say for 400 bucks and ~4000 parts you think they could have made something better,

Certainly that ramp pops, its an eyesore, dont know what did they thought. Having said that, my castle is coming tommorow with forestman hideout, its overpriced not-tm set (and its a begining of the new norm) but still i like it way more than most new legos and I think it will only get worse from now. Yeah, i also like main gate and bridge with fake floor, 2nd gatehouse and the fact that its not square box like 3in1 castle. It could be bigger, but what i would change would be add another floor to main bastion and enlarge woden house so its roof and those 2 towers would be higher and more spacious inside. I've kinda stopped looking into it because ever since Bricklink sent that email, the people I was keeping an eye on immediately lowered their stock and made it look like they only have a handful of minifigs instead of hundreds/thousands - Bricklink is ran by actual retards, I have no clue who thought that alerting the sellers that are selling stolen shit was a good idea
Part of me thinks they did it as a quick resolution: give the guilty sellers a head's up/warning so they don't have to go after each and every one, which means less money for Bricklink (as a lot of these sellers are huge stores) and they don't risk being buttfucked by Lego themselves for harboring a fucking "black market" of sorts on the site

As in lego spaceships? The new castle is easily the bigest and most grand castle to date, it have most detail, minis and play functions. Sure, they fucked up with design in few places which is a bummer for sucha pricy set. If you see 'dollhouses' for 5-6yo they look quite similar to almost every old castle set (minus being brickbuild) - more space, because kids need more space and arent that dexterus at this age, plus everything is simplified, look at playmobile or some castle models for kids, they all can be put into 'dollhouse genere'. I think almost everyone look at new castle from the perspective of blacksmith and would want something that would corespond sizewise, generaly make it bigger. Ofc theres a question of 400dol pricetag too, but I think ppl need to be real and just prepare to give more money to lego if they want to continue their hobby, its just a start.

Im still intersted and stoked about new lion castle set because its largest and most amazing castle set to date. In the 10+ years I've been ordering from Bricklink I've never ran into a store that made me message the seller before placing the order. If the initial order transcript being sent to them isn't enough to let them know they got an order coming in then that's their problem. Then again, 7 hours isn't that long, I've had times where sellers wouldn't get back to me for days at a time. I would've waited a day before going ahead and placing the order if I were in your position.

1254 pieces with many large elements and prints, no stickers, gigantic windscreens, great design at $100 is probably the best value of any Lego set currently in production imo. I've put an order in one for one.

Bricksie makes me uncomfortable because I went through a phase like that when I was buying way too much shit that just felt like a burden and made me hate the hobby. I think that people who are depressed often fall into toy collecting because it reminds them of better times. But hyper-consumerism and hoarding just destroys that feeling over time.

The consumerism and "investment" channels are soul killers. And usually any Lego channel that doesn't focus on something creative; stop motion, original mocs, fun challenges, etc devolves into just buying product and having a fake reaction to it. Bricktsar, Jang, etc just look tired and regretful when they buy stuff.

Part of the purchase is using youtube as a job and hobby, but it also feels like you're witnessing someone chasing a dopamine rush only for it to illicit no real response at the pay-off. Which is just kind of cringe and depressing. Then it's just someone with a pale complexion and dark, tired eyes opening up a plastic children's toy that will be tossed aside as soon as the camera is off.

Basically, I just hatewatch him, but I also don't mind him as a person outside of the CONSOOOOOM because he's relatively chill and just seems to enjoy the hobby

I also went through that "buy every set" phase when I go back into Lego, and it definitely does get to be a soulsucking venture after a while; I've gone in waves of it, where I'll buy a few things here and there, and then suddenly buy tons of shit whether it's sets or just armybuilding minifigs to the point where I hate the sight of them and sell them all off to recoup my money

It's a pretty shitty thing, but at least with Lego you can make your money back 90% of the time - I've never gotten to the point of absolute hoarding like Bricksie/MandR/BrickTsar and I felt horrible, so I really can't imagine what it's like to be them (implying they even have a sliver of humanity left, I know for a fact MandR's parents bought his affection instead of giving him love)
At least JANG donates the stuff he doesn't want, or uses the parts for MOCs

The recent tsar vid made me sad where he bought multiple of the same stuff with preorders. I think he has a buying problem. He says he doesn't know why he buys some of the stuff he does.

There's actually a good few underrated lego youtubers who put in a ton of effort and only have 2-15k subs. It's usually niche so they don't get a lot of love, but what they make is very good. Take a chance and click a recommended video or something if one pops up.

I wish more people would have a "minimalist" look to their collection where they have shelves with individual sets & custom builds/scenes that compliment it - that's what I would do at least, like building a landing pad or moon rock formation for the Galaxy Explorer

$100 is honestly a steal for this set. It's like lego wanted to say sorry for nearly only pushing out star wars for 20 years.

Like compare 4 of these to one castle. They could have done 150 or 120 easily but they managed 100.

I am so happy with the price and design. They really did well with it. The lower price and alternate builds encourage buying multiples, which I too am going to fall for.

I intend to basically have it so that my shelf has a 2fort vibe to it with black falcons blue castle using Reobrix one with added medieval blacksmith parts on one side and the edited lion knight with red themes on another, display is going to look something like this provided I find enough big parts for tree building.

A couple of years ago I went looking and found all his and all his families Facebooks profiles. For the most part they were all "friends" with each other, except Ryan and his dad. His dad is "friends" with Ryan's brother and sister, but not Ryan. His dad has family photos of them all together, including him and Ryan and pics of Lego stuff that Ryan was probably involved/interested in, which leads me to think it's not a problem with his dad, but that Ryan has some daddy issues.

Hi everyone, was wondering if you could help me out a bit, idk if anyone here actually makes MOCS but ever since I've grown up I've lost all my creative drive with Lego, even simple concepts that shouldn't be hard to design like spaceships, cars, trains etc are so difficult to envision and even harder to actually create. Just start clicking bricks together into shapes. Don't pay attention to an end vision until you have a whole palette of shapes to work off of. I have the entire line of retail sets and the Chrome Crusher is easily my favorite. The Tunnel Transport is great, but not as iconic as the Chrome Crusher. I'd also suggest the Granite Grinder as an excellent starter set.

I mean it's still the most accurate Hogwarts Express Lego's released in terms of proportions, but I think they shot themselves in the foot with having to do a fully detailed coach interior with the enclosed compartments and a hallway. As /lg/'s resident trainfaggot I was really looking forward to this set and the potential juicy new train parts that it would bring, but even those can't be used by people who build in 6,7, or even 8 wide. 10 wide simply isn't a thing amongst lego train communities, so it's clear this thing was designed to appeal to the Harry Potter crowd first far more than it was to the train crowd.

Guess I'll go and bricklink my own Hall class since it's clear Lego's never gonna do a proper one.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention my biggest complaint about this set is this fucking shit. Like I get they're trying to do the trim around the side of the cab here but the fact they have to use what looks like two 2x3 tiles next to each other that have a huge yellow line going through the middle of the number plate is both lazy and really ugly for what's supposedly a $500 set. Put the number plate on a printed brick/tile and either do the trim with some prints/decals or don't do it at all.

There's also no reason for them to use yellow rails here for the trim on the tender when it easily could have just been regular plates instead. Like holy fuck there's some good things here and there on this but I take a closer look and I find 2-3 more things for me to hate about this set.

another thing of note is the minifig selection, which as I mentioned earlier, isn't really good. I'm mean sure, it's a decent way of showing how harry has grown up over the course of the books/films, but I feel they're over doing it. like seriously lego? we already have other sets containing most of these figs. As a fellow trainfag, I can see where you're coming from. What also bothers me is the scaling, minifigures are about 0 gauge while Hogwarts Castle looks to be gauge 1 or G gauge (doubt it will run on G scale tracks). I really hoped that this would be minifigure scale, it really sucks about Lego is that for there to be room for detailing, the model has be overscaled. Overall it looks to be an overpriced display model, even the Hornby model would be better for value, even though I think Hornby is overpriced bullshit that'll sell you old triang moulds from the 80s at full price.

It was on backorder in nz(Australia for all intensive purposes as far as lego) by around 12:08-12:15 was say it will be shipped by the 25th and when I ordered mine the next day for the shitty pirate bits, they ended up on backorder/then cancelled. Then got told it would be delivered on Thursday.

I'm not a huge scale autist when it comes to my trains, if it looks about the right size I won't give a fuck if for it to be "scale" my model would need to be 2 and 1/3rd studs longer or whatever. I'm just astounded by them going 10-wide just for the sake of having a coach interior that looks like the movies. Even an 8 wide release like the Disney train set would've been fine, but the scaling completely puts this set apart from pretty much every other Lego train before it.

Sadly Lego's train production is usually geared towards the City crowd, meaning all we tend to get is modern day European electrics or the occasional American diesel. If you can still track it down the Disney Train and Station comes with an engine based on the ones at the Disneyland Railroad (The C.K. Holliday in particular) that you can use as a basis.

Not sure about Lego and WB but I heard about the Bluebrixx Star Trek sets that Paramount tells them which colors to use for the ship models. Like the designer said he'd rather have used a lighter grey but Paramount told them to use the darker grey.
