Seriously, what's the deal with people buying toys from live action movies? They are awful. You are not buying a Dr. Strange toy, you are just buying an expensive Benedict Cumberbatch in horrible cosplay toy. And It's just not Hot Toy, but all the brands like Mafex, making live action toy. I don't get it.

Non-movie figures have been based off real people for decades now. A lot of ARAH GI Joes were based off Hasbro emploees, and probably before ARAH too. If its a semi realistic sculpt, chances are the sculptor used some person as reference.
Personally I do think its a bit vapid buying most MCU movie figures because the designs are hashed out crap, moreso than it being an actor. But if a movie makes renough of an impression over time I think its worth it. Arnold Schwarzenegger in his movies is a larger than life character, his Conan, Terminator, Dutch, etc. are all iconic characters, so I see why people would want a figure of them. Superhero movies can achieve that level of iconic status too, but its harder since there's so many of them. Like Reeve's Superman and Keaton's Batman fall under that.

It's a tradition that doesn't die. it's profitable but then somebody thought an Eternals wave was a good idea. I still think about who thought that was a good idea. Not only were the characters obscure, but so were the actors who played them. Then again, I only recognize actors if they voiced cartoons

This is acceptable. Though personally I find it kind of 'cheap' if your entire collection is just Disney version of Marvel characters. Though that is mostly because I think the live Disney designs are trash compared to the more colorful and exciting comic versions. Displays filled with Hot Toys are more souless than displays filled with Marvel Legends.
