Childhood is perhaps the only time you can be happy. Your scope is underdeveloped and you aren't scared or saddened by less immediate things or other people's troubles. No existencial dread, no fear of poverty, no lack of security, no sociopolitical concerns. The parents know best than anyone and can keep you safe from everything. As an adult you have to commit escapism with substances or devices to forget all those additional burdens. And forgeting them doesn't bring you into a happy state but the default neutral one. Sometimes you may be relieved at their sudden removal but that is about it. If you love your children then you should try to give them happy childhoods, otherwise their whole lives will have been a painful march.
Another thing adults overlook is that time passes faster as you grow up. A minute of waiting for them is a lot longer for a kid. And yet they demand that the kids wait long periods of time, or they take them to boring events expecting the kids to wait it out. Then they get angry when the kids act up. Not at themselves for practicing poor judgement, but at the kids. It's kinda like when someone who lives in an apartment buys a naturally energetic creature such as a dog, doesn't offer it exercise, and then hates it for running around the house and barking.
And god forbid a child doesn't think at the level of an adult despite it's underdeveloped brain. It'll be forever regarded as a moron. Or if they try to explain things to you like an adult and you don't understand.
One more thing adults have no understanding of is school. They've attended school, they regarded it as a chore, and they forgot the bulk of the teachings some time after. But again they get angry and scratch their heads when children have the same reaction. And let's not forget homework. As kids they hated that homework consumed so much of their time. But as adults they're asking the teachers to give the kids more homework exactly to keep them busy.

Bionicle is interesting since so many of the parts ever used were one and done, never seen in a set again so in a way you can be certain that you'll always have at least some correct parts from a set. And besides, if you black 2-long axle from 90s, or from this year, they look the same and work the same so does it really matter?

As far as I know, there's absolutely no way to verify what set a part originally came from. So if we say it's only Gali if all the parts were packaged and shipped by Lego as Gali's, that would basically make it impossible to ever own a Gali unless you buy a factory sealed canister. Because even if you buy the whole set from a single seller, if the canister has ever been opened the parts could be from anywhere and you wouldn't be able to tell.
Actually, even if you have a sealed canister, once you open it and build the set, it becomes completely infeasible for any outside observer to determine whether or not you replaced any (or all) of the parts at a later point, so basically the only Galis we can confidently call real are the unassembled piles of parts inside canisters. Since this result is completely stupid and backwards, I must instead conclude that anything that looks like Gali also is Gali.

This is specifically referring to old molds being replaced with new versions of the same mold once they're worn out. So far I haven't seen anything official that says out of production parts like Bionicle have had their molds destroyed. Even if they were, they certainly would have the resources to make new ones considering they're able to constantly replace the molds for parts currently in use. There's a very low chance Lego would ever bring back Bionicle but "the molds are destroyed lol" is a complete meme and not even a good reason.

Well, that's an interesting question. Obviously the real reason is that the author (idk which book that is so not sure if it's Greg or Hapka) just forgot that children don't really exist in the Bionicle universe. My best guess for an in-universe explanation is that in the MU a "child" is someone inexperienced who needs to be watched over by someone wiser. In that way, the Matoran were like children when they awoke on Mata Nui without their memories and needed the Turaga to guide them.

There's some mentions here and there of certain Rahi growing throughout their lifespans (most notably Ussal), so the general concept of being in a young, immature state wouldn't be entirely foreign to the MU. You can just see "children" as an approximate translation of whatever term they'd use for that.

to play devil's advocate, i think it is entirely possible that lego still has the old molds in some form or another. keep in mind that the ship in a bottle set from ideas was able to bring back a mold that hadn't been used since, what, the 80's? so they likely have some kind of archive for their retired parts, and that could include bionicle.

that said, i don't think we're likely to get any new bionicle sets in the foreseeable future, and if we do they'll probably be system based. the way i see it is that bionicle served its purpose back in the 2000's and lego has since moved on. you can still see bionicle's influence on modern lego in the form of ninjago, mixel joints, and so on. i think these are the things that bionicle fans should focus on, not demanding lego bring back the same exact sets they grew up with.

Please don’t laugh, but this is what I have right now. I pulled out my old nuparu and matau from childhood, despite technically being from childhood I got them both from ebay a little after bionicle was finished or during the Stars/glatoran year idk. I had a Gresh that I bought in Paris, as you can see by the gresh leg I had to use for Nuparu but the parts are too broken to build him, my first was Nokama Hordika but i remember losing her somehow, I had a hahli mahri but no part of her remains now and a nuparu inika also from eBay which is mostly gone now.

I got Kopaka recently, I am also going to get another nuparu inika and https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165559752262

Matau originally came with those wrong coloured parts

The Gregical opinion on that is "no, but ignore me if any canon material already says otherwise".
If you ask me, there definitely are at least some types of Rahi that reproduce, sexually or otherwise. Simply because at some point a Makuta must have realized you can skip the tedious work of making more of the same Rahi by just giving them a self-replication feature instead.

As for me, I liked to play with lego* as a kid, and I think Lego is something fine to spend time with and if someone bought me a bigger set as a present I would be happy to have it, but it’s not a hobby I actively invest time or money in.

That's not how it works anon. The simplest reason why Lego isn't making any Bionicle stuff is because they don't want to invest the time or money into it developing and producing sets.
Granted, you may well be right that they destroyed the molds, but that isn't the simplest theory and therefore isn't Occam's razor.
Also there's nothing wrong with asking for proof of your claims. Beforehand you made the assertion that they had been destroyed and yet later on you've backtracked to the more reasonable they've *probably* been destroyed.

I grew up with Bionicle and technic, then later CCBS in my teenage years, but I'm personally more interested in the creative aspects and the building system of Bionicle and Lego in general. I never cared too much for things that are only display pieces, it's pretty rare when I don't take apart the sets I bought after a few days to start MOCing with the pieces, sometimes I also straight up just get pieces separately from bricklink and sometimes other places. I still build action figures and Bionicle-styled stuff, but my MOCs tend to be built of a mixture of technic and system parts that are still in production and a few Bionicle and CCBS parts here and there if they have the shape I want.
I'd be happy too if Bionicle came back, but I'm okay without it. And in a sense I don't think it necessarily "needs" to come back for us to be able to make Bionicle MOCs. There's a lot of technic panel pieces and system pieces (they mostly use them in Ninjago) now that can be used as armor, and those different types of rounded slope pieces (mostly used in Speed Champions sets) can be used give more shape and details to MOCs and fill out empty spaces, so they won't look to blocky and "system-ish", you can use system rods to imitate the pistons of Bionicle pieces, there are some parts that look like vents, etc.
It's also interesting how they're trying to integrate constraction into system now, like those Ninjago EVO sets and Spiderman figures this year for example, granted those mostly still look too bland and blocky.

But I also get it that some people don't care much about MOCing, or that the style of Bionicle imitated with technic and system pieces doesn't look close enough to actual Bionicle, or they care more about the story and the media than the sets themselves.

I'm so fucking sick of Technic being relegated to NOTHING but shitt cars and construction vehicles, and not even the fun kinds! They're EXCLUSIVELY $100+ "UCS-tier" builds for adult retards who can't just get into... whatever the non-Lego metal equivalent to Technic is called, idk sorry.

Look, I like mixels and the idea of system builds, I really do! I think current Lego's output of mechs and stuff using mixel joints fucking sucks though, since they joints're only ever available in gray and those marvel mechs/system figures look like ass (overpriced ass I might add), and again, there are NO Technic-compatible mixel joint parts, because Lego hates Technic more than any of you tards think they hate Bionicle (which they don't, you're just addicted to pitying yourselves).

The real future of Bionicle should be smaller-sized Technic builds using Mixels joints, about 2x the size of a minifig on average, so you could build proper setpieces (and "giant" characters/beasts) too, and also have them realistically interact with existing Lego builds.
The future should be to merge the different building systems closer together, not fucking delete them from existence. Fuck you and fuck Lego, the bastards.

Bionicle would fare well in a Toy Story setting provided there is a lot of pieces there. They could hardly be broken and even if they were the pieces available allow for a revamped and reinforced build, it's kinda interesting methinks.

But yeah I think a single piece does not have a concious, not even heads. Once they start to form a shape the individual will be "awake", that way fusions or mocs that possess heads won't go schizo.

I had this headcanon for some time now that the Great Beings didn't fully understand how protodermis works and didn't know what they were doing, they were just experimenting by adding gene samples from the Glatorian/Agori to protodermis to see what happens.
But lately I came up with a theory that the species of the Great Beings/ Agori / Glatorain evolved from insects or at least arthropods.

Bohrok and Makuta weren't based on any real species, though. Bohrok are obviously insectoid, but it doesn't really matter. As for the Makuta, kraata were always treated as a different species sort of. A kraata wouldn't/couldn't eventually grow into a Makuta.

No, they were in those forms already. The mutagen just locked them in those shapes and removed most of their powers. They weren't exposed enough to get any visual changes, the Mutagen doesn't act that fast.

Yeah, check out the Bionicle Direct for Masks of Power at least.
Mangai Project looks promising.
Ide's Journey was okay even though the voices could have been better.
Stuart Sayger's stream was great, love his drawing this year. I hope he touches it up and posts it online like he said he would.
As for day 2 the only thing worth seeing was the MNOG composer announcing a new album in the vein of the game's soundtrack. He was kind of retarded on the tech side of thing causing issues, but the music was worth it.

Gali in general is defined by piece count, type and coliur of parts. Get the pieces and build Gali and you will have an actual Gali imo, even if you don't own canister or instructions. I'd probably argue you need original lego pieces tho, no other brands.

Use black Bohrok headplates as mask, add some little shit to be eyes. But you won't be able to make mask complex without System. Only option is using Bohrok plate, place under it's brow bohrok eyes at some angle and replicate the lower par of the mask with Hydraxon's mask. It does look like a lower part of a Pred facemask.
Plus, you could use a whole Grievous figure for plates and bones.

Bionicle was on the decline when the Nuva/Bohrok Kal were released. The Rakshi were pretty much the only good new sets after 2002. Metru Nui was when it was over.

Honestly my problem was that all the enemies post-Rahi and pre-Piraka were literally just clones. Bohrok and Rakshi had cool function but all looked identical. Same for Vahki and Visorak

I'm gonna elaborate.
Dropping the mask collecting element and the whole "the mechanical action of the toy is so you can knock the mask off your friend's Bionicle" aspect were huge mistakes.
You could argue that even the Bohrok were a misstep because it was kind of tricky to hit the part that ejects the Krana. The Rakshi were a bit easier to eject the slug.

They could have kept the Toa Mata on the shelves and the Nuva could have been a parts pack that you upgrade the original toa with. Instead they released basically the same Toa sets again, which is lame. Bohrak Kal were even worse. The silver parts for Nuva and Bohrak Kal looked kinda lame.

Metru Nui, when the masks were firmly affixed to the face made the mechanical action of the toys pointless, so they gradually phased it out gear mechanisms in favor of poseability and shooters.

So they kind of surprisingly quickly phased out the collect-em-all element and the original play element of smashing your toys together with your friends.
The rerelease a few years ago had a lot of the same problems, plus the plastic for a lot of the new parts seems flimsier. And I guess kids don't really get the appeal of a toy that you can bash other toys with these days.

Personal taste is obviously a factor, but here goes

1. Lewa. When I was a kid I would have said Kopaka, but Lewa has the most striking and tribal mask design and he'd consistently win (knock the mask off first) in bonkle fights because his axe was long and heavy at the end, making his swings much stronker. Flying is cool, and the jungle is a cool biome to swing around and fly in.
2. Kopaka. Definitely the coolest, and that isn't an ice pun. His mask makes and its ability makes him seem like a hunter killer. I think he was the only one besides Pohatu to have kind of a cool sports angle, given he was shown snowboarding on his shield in some of the media (Pohatu had a soccer ball. Gali swam and Tahu was shown lava surfing on a rock, but neither of those were incorporated into the set, where you could customize Kopaka to be able to stand on his shield). Lone wolf personality, and the sword and shield combo makes him seem combat focused.
3. Tahu was framed as the leader, and his mask design fits. Looks kind of noble, and fire guy is a good fit for the leader. Both Kopaka and Tahu's swords were about the same length, and their design was about the same, so they were comperable for fights.

4. Gali and Onua. I'm ranking them at the same level. Gali's cool, scuba girl is cool and kind of sexy as a theme, but here we start to get into considerations for the toy factor for bonkles: her claws were short compared to the axe and sword weapons, and they had a curved design that made it tricky to knock off a mask. Sometimes they were good though, because they could potentially hook onto a mask and knock them right off. Also the ability to swing both arms was a little chaotic. Onua was about the same, but his claws were a better design in terms of combat: easier to hook, plus being splayed out in three prongs made them more dangerous. He was at a disadvantage though, with his hunched over design: his head being lower made his mask easier to hit. Earth (digging into) is ok as a theme and Ono-Koro was one of the coolest villages in MNOG, but Earth and Stone have obvious problems, which I'll describe with Pohatu.
5. Pohatu: he was a non-factor in battle play. His kicks couldn't reach the other Toa's masks. His flipped body design was cool, kicking was otherwise cool, and I like the variety it brings. The mask of speed is a cool power (arguably cooler than Onua's which is the most generic), and the sports angle was cool. Po-Koro and the desert region were neat, but Onua as the Toa of Earth and Pohatu as the Toa of Stone is obviously a little reduntant. In reality, Pohatu was the Toa of the desert, and Onua was the Toa of stone, but at a glance they seem like different color versions of the same thing.

We'd move them around. When you'd square up, the unspoken rules seemed to be that you'd be sitting across from each other and you couldn't move away, and that you had to use the mechanical action of the toy (couldn't just smash them together, you had to use the gears), but we'd move them around like they were dodging and juking. Kinda helps to be on a surface like a flat table or a tile floor too, so you can slide them around. And there was a little bit of a "literally smashing them together" factor in that moving while swinging is obviously better than just the swing.

also for as fun as this was, seems kind of best to leave it in childhood. Imagination definitely greased the gears, and beyond conversations about whether or not it'd be embarassing to play this way as an adult, it's difficult to even get into that child's mindset that made this kind of thing so fun

Tahu is technically the face of Bionicle, the leader of the Toa Mata, the most recognizable and iconic of them all, and yet he plays a very small role in the story itself. He is always sidelined in comics, games and movies. Why is that? I remember as a kid I was very disappointed that in the movie Mask of Light he doesn't have any cool action scenes and he spends most of the plot as a bad guy.

2001 in particular really depends on which media you take into account. For a lot of people I imagine their strongest memory is MNOG, where he has relatively little solo presence due to how early we meet him. The other Toa all get some kind of fight scene, but Tahu just looks mysterious and cuts down some sticks.

Still, in a game with no voices, the visuals are going to have a much stronger effect on people's general impression years later. And visually, all the Toa are present in that scene, making the focus on Tahu less effective.
To be clear, what I'm trying to say isn't "Tahu is irrelevant in MNOG", but rather "it makes sense that people who mainly remember MNOG would feel like Tahu was kinda irrelevant".

This may be a controversial opinion, but I never liked Toa Nuva. The less interesting weapons and the oversized organic masks never appealed to me. For me, Toa Mata were so iconic design-wise and it was just impossible to top them back then.

Visorak actually had a decent amount of variety. For starters, their main body pieces all had different crests and patterns on them, so right there they aren't just mere pallet swaps. After that, their limbs all vary in length. Oohnorak is very stocky, while Keelerahk is very lanky. My favorite part about Visorak names is that the middle syllable is the Elemental Prefix. VohTArak, SuuKOrak, etc.

Let's talk about Bionicle. Would it make more sense for the Great Spirit Robot to be bigger on the inside? Considering that pocket universes are a thing in Bionicle, it seems logical that the entire Matoran Universe could be one too. That way, you can have it be way larger, far more vast, while having the GSR itself a much more sensible size.

Same thing I always say; smaller-scale figures that can practically fit in your pocket thanks to mainly using mixels joints, with the builds primarily being based in simple Technic but also integrating System well when needed, namely in the vehicles/locations/setpieces (which will finally be practical at this size), and also allowing for gigantic beasts and whatnot to be possibly built. Better integration with regular Lego sets thanks to the new scale would make it seem more closely related to Lego, while still feeling like Bionicle thanks to being buildable Technic figures.
Additionally, this would mean a kid wanting all their favorite characters wouldn't have to shell out $20-$25 per character figure, like they would have during G2 and SW CCBS, and even now with the System Spider-Man action figures.
Randomized parts packs of character pieces would also be approachable and fun, helpful for creating your own characters for cheap, and easily massable.

They already had weird creepy alien features, spooky dark atmosphere, etc. only thing Bionicle truly needed to fully realize it's aesthetic was some of the implied biomechanical grossness. Probably a dumb question, but I dug my original Toa Mata set out of the garage. The container that I placed them wasn't secured right and they're somewhat dusty now.
Can I just dunk these guys in soapy water without taking them apart?
Some of the joints look worn (they were played with a lot back in the day) so I'd rather not take them apart if I could help it.

Just put them in a bucket of warm soapy water and swish them around a bit. Probably just let them soak for a bit too. The original joints are pretty solid so the only possibility of them breaking is dust getting in the socket. If you carefully pull them apart after cleaning off as much dust as you can they should be fine. Then you'll be able to fully clean the ball and socket. At that point just swoosh them around in the water some more and then manually clean any stubborn dirt that might be left over.

That doesn't really look too bad, you should be able to clean it just fine with the rest of the parts. There's some method of whitening yellowed parts with oxi clean and sunlight, but yours still looks pretty white.

Watching the films it made me realise the skill it takes in a kids film to trick a kid that is watching an hour long film into feeling like he’s watching 2 hour long film, I know kids naturally have time go slower for them but the structure of kids film are specifically made to take advantage of their minds and make the film feel far longer than it really is. I mean there are long adult films and shorter adult feature films, but shorter adult feature films don’t try to pretend they are 2 hours something long. You can recount the plots of all the bionicle movies and realise not a lot happens in each of them, but you do also a certain level of trickery in making that not a lot in terms of plot feel like a lot.

Like I watched Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, and that film is 2 hours + the deleted scenes is like 3 hours with a fanmade cut that glues them together. I swear to God, that film in many ways feels shorter than the bionicle films because it prefers to go through each scene in depth, like the whole first hour of the film feels like a 10 minute prologue.

Tl;dr: imagine a bionicle film directed by Lynch

Each level has one, you have to talk to certain guys in every village to teach you the dance and then it plays. It’s technically optional, but it feels like the story wants you to do it because the turaga will give you dialogue concerning your quest and the lore afterwards.

Ngl, you're kinda stupid anon. Acetone would melt the fucking plastic. Toothbrush with soapy water, dry off, then alcohol and q-tips. No, the plastic wont get destroyed or scratched if you use a soft bristle brush and you're not putting all your force into it. That should remove the grime. Any staining, you can try leaving it in peroxide but I haven't tried this trick myself, consult /lg/ for more. Never fucking use acetone. Anons only use that to remove prints and thry want to commit heresy, and half the time they screw up and remove the top layer of plastic, removing the gloss in the process. Don't ever attempt that shit on anything you value, and never listen to the first anon who answers you.

G2 had printed pieces, kanoka disks also have prints. And I was referring to /lg/ anons using acetone to remove prints feom system parts and minifigs. Either way, ou put acetone on a mask and you're going to ruin it.
