Any recommendations for getting back into model kits?

I used to do these all the time when I was a kid, mainly boats and planes, but haven’t done one in 20 years.

Trying to get back into it but have no clue where to start. Figures seem cool but I’m seeming to mainly find Gundam figures, which is cool, but is there more out there?

Any help would be really appreciated!
