Adding articulation to figures

I got this black and white BatMan figure that I thought had way better articulation than it actually did, I was wondering if there are any kits for adding better articulation to figures as his left leg suuuucks.

Swivel joints are super easy to add and there's multiple ways to do it. You can either saw the limb sections in half, route out sockets into one part and add a screw (whereby the screw head becomes the swivel), or you can steal 4-way joints from another figure and do a transplant. Jin Saotome has a good tutorial on it.

Well, the thing is if you look at the leg, adding a swivel joint dosn't fix the fact it's only bendable at the angles it's in now. I'm looking for something that'll work with the thigh sockets, but I also did need that tutorial for the arms and knees though.

Yeah, reminds me of my DC Direct Batman Hush figures. They had absolute shit hip articulation, and it was basically there as a formality only. You can hypothetically transplant the ball hips from another action figure onto the figure but I've never attempted anything that complex, and I haven't seen a lot of people do that. It requires some garage engineering and there's no gaurantee that it's going to work because the hips are such an integral part of the figure's structure.

I think what most people would suggest in a situation like that is to just do a total conversion of a a figure that already has the articulation you want, and thne hack off the parts of the Batman action figure that you want to keep for it and attach them. That is a huge involved project in and of itself but in any case, when it comes to hip articulation, I would rather start with a figure that already has what I want.

I'm thinking maybe just doing a clean slice at the top of the thighs as opposed to a ball socket joint, i'll at least get the legs staright doing that, but not sure how well it will look seeing as the muscle is molded in a specific direction.

No matter what, mid-section joints will sacrifice some believability when it comes to muscles, but I think it's usually worth it. Judging from that pic, here's approximately where I'd consider adding joints.

You could add some ball jointed articulation to the ankles too but I don't think it's really worth it, because the legs aren't gonna be moving that much anyway and you'd have to cut away more material to actually get the pivoting movement.

Just remember, if it's a softer plastic, cut straight through using a very sharp knife. Only use a hobby saw on hard plastics.

Yeah, just make sure that you have some rubber or cloth between the clamp and the figure to make sure that the paint isn't getting scuffed.

Since the topic of adding articulation to figures is brought up, has anyone added any additional articulation to any of the Batman The Adventures Continue figures? specifically Red Hood? I really like the figure and design, i just wish he could do more.
