There's no clear consensus about where generational lines are drawn. The only one recognized by the federal government is baby boomers between 1943 and 1960 following the sharp rise in births in the aftermath of WW2. Various competing theories peg generation X between 1961 and the early 1980s (Too old for 4chan but likely a lot of current 4chan users' parents), generation Y, or "millennials," between the early-to-mid 1980s and mid-to-late 1990s (Oldfags), and generation Z from the late 1990s to present, essentially post-9/11 (The current Pepe and kys cancers).
