A stainless Ruger Security Six revolver, featuring a set of aftermarket wood grips.
These double-action/single-action hand-ejector revolvers are the predecessors to today's GP100 and Redhawk revolvers, which would replace it. Ruger would tend to retail these revolvers at a pretty low price, selling them for fairly slim margins (supposedly as an investment for the sale of future revolver designs), so they were a pretty attractive choice for many people and police departments. Not quite as strong and lockup as its descendants, nor as the Blackhawk, but it's a gun you can shoot .357 Magnum with all day and it won't complain. The Speed Six revolvers were the same, only they would have a fixed combat sight, in place of this adjustable target rear sight.
Generally, you could still find these old workhorses for pretty agreeable prices, though with current civil unrest and the pandemic, the cost of guns and ammunition has increased across the board, from a reduction in production meeting a sharp spike in demand.
