You know what I blame? The low-effort meme wave from fucking Advice Dog. As well as Reddit taking every funny /b/ meme and absolutely beating it to death until it stopped being funny overnight (rage comics for example). Eventually /b/ started actually hating memes and that was the beginning of the end.
I miss it because we used to have some good times on there. It really was RANDOM, you never knew what you'd see in the catalog but there was always lots of good shit to be found nevertheless.
