I’m quitting drinking. I never tried to quit before so I don’t know what to do. I’m going to try and start by posting here once a day to hold myself accountable.

Day 1: I had 3 beers last night and a couple drinks of sake. Today I feel no strong urge to drink.

Day 2 : I didn’t drink anything last night. There was a brief occasion where I felt the craving for the cold and bitter taste of an IPA but it subsided. I could have gotten a non-alcoholic beer from my fridge but I was worried it would make me want to drink real beer so I didn’t do it.

I slept really well last night, for the first time in I don’t remember how long. I woke up not feeling too groggy or fried. I guess I didn’t realize alcohol was doing that to me, because I wasn’t waking up with straight up hangovers or headaches

Good for you. Just focus on not drinking today. But you also need something else to think about, if you spend all your time thinking about drinking it's going to be hard to quit.
Exercise is a great option.

I wonder if non-alcoholic beer is counterproductive. It does say 65 calories per can, which yeah isn't much but is objectively more than I would have if I weren't drinking any. I think I'm being fooled by the brand name (it says Athletic Brewing, so I must be associating it with losing weight or something)

I decided to cut back on non-alcoholic beer. After looking into it, it seems a lot of people don't consider it "really quitting." Plus those empty calories can't be good for you, right?

Thanks. I don't think I have made it a big deal for myself, in fact I wonder if I was ever even addicted in the first place. I want to reassess what my goals are, because it's not that I dislike the idea of drinking from time to time. It's just that I never went longer than a couple days without drinking the past few years lol. Maybe I just want to cut back, or prove that I can go to 30 days without drinking, or something.

I made it to day 23 and then I had some beers yesterday. I'm pretty satisfied with 23 days, like I said earlier I'm not totally against drinking every now and then. I just don't want to drink every single day anymore, and I think going 23 days without doing that proved to myself that I can do that.

Thank you for reading my blog. To anyone who mainly drinks beer and wants to cut back on that, I highly recommend non-alcoholic beer. I had zero desire or urge to drink real beer during the duration of this abstinence. The only reason I drank yesterday was to celebrate a work-related milestone.

Do you think you will actually be able to drink again without turning back into an alocholic?
I've never experienced addiction.
I've tried smoking and drinking and I don't really get it.
Sometimes I go a few months without smoking and then I will puff my pipe for a bit.
Same as alcohol.
I will only drink on holidays and usually just let someone else get the alcohol.

Yeah, I think what I learned is that I was never really addicted. If I never had another drink again that wouldn’t be so bad, because I sleep better without it and I think it gives me diarrhea. I finished the six pack I bought yesterday today, and I’m not going out to buy another one tomorrow.
