Also I noticed that no one applies to applications anymore. It didn't used to be this way, I used to hear back from at least 1 of every 10 applications. Now I can go weeks at a time where I apply to 10 or more jobs a day and don't hear anything back from anyone ever. That's nuts lol

Don't look at classifieds. A lot of workplaces don't advertise because they get enough applications without paying for ad space. You should look up top employers in your area and send your resume to their human resources department. Include a cover letter talking about what kind of work you'd like to do if they have an opening for you. There are actually some places that will think about hiring you even if they aren't "hiring" if they think they have a use for you. (I know because my company does that)
