>>38827It's not illegal in the U.S., I was surprised to learn this, but pretty much no one does it because hospitals won't take blood that people were paid to give. It makes for a much higher risk of 'bad' blood, such as the donor having HIV, donating while having a cold, and so on.
And yes a cold matters because immuno-suppressed patients can go through a lot of blood, the common cold can kill them.
