Why is working in a cubicle for a multinational corporation such a soul-draining experience? I swear of my eight hour days, four hours are spent in useless meetings where we either run around in circles getting nothing done or talk about the same shit we've already discussed thousand times before, another two to three hours are spent babysitting other coworkers who are incompetent, and the remaining hour might be the only time I ever seem somewhat productive actually doing work.

I'd take that over cap 2 (unloading shipments) at Walmart any day, anon. They squeeze as much physical labor out of their employees as is humanly possible. I've been there since November and I've lost 40lbs.

I did almost nothing and cleared a few volumes of manga. It has been an unusually good week, though if the rumors are true I'll be working my ass off in hell after Labor Day.

Don't get me wrong, I love the fact I've got a comfy, white-collar office job. I too worked loading and unloading trucks and warehouses for businesses when I was younger and I said fuck that; I needed something at a desk in a climate controlled building.

I just figure there's a level of competency I'd expect from my coworkers so we could all meet a certain level of productivity. I mean, when we've had a two hour long meeting everyday for almost two weeks where the bulk of the conversation can be summed up as "No, I didn't hear back from him, I'll follow up with an e-mail," something's terribly wrong.

I'm visiting my family in my childhood town, and, to be perfectly honest, I hate it here. I love my family, and we all have excellent relationships with each other, but being around them for too long is frustrating.

I've been here for nearly 3 weeks and I've got 16 days left to go, including a trip to Florida starting on the 8th. I didn't expect to be spending this much time here, and I'm gonna try my hardest not to again. I just want to get back to my apartment so I can listen to things with my headphones on without having to worry about someone calling me and receive my mail without it having to pass through someone else's mailbox.

It's also hot as fuck in my bedroom and, if I dare turn up the AC by even two degrees, someone goes ballistic on me.

I know the former really well. I relocated for business about eight years ago and I've only been back to my hometown where I grew up maybe three or four times since then, and every time I go back it seems to get worse and worse. A lot of the small mom & pop stores I remember going to as a kid have closed down and the area's been developed into a thriving business district. There used to be lots of rolling fields with nothing but sugarcane as far as you can see; now they're all subdivisions and neighborhoods. They built a five lane highway literally right next to the old duplex house I used to live in. Shit's just not the same.

Both. My family is great, and we're all very close, but there are a ton of little niggles that make living with them impossible. I don't want to sound ungrateful, but it's hard spending this much time with them after moving out and seeing what life on my own is like.

I know this feeling. My town used to be a sleepy little villa that was safe and quiet. Now they're building a mall complex, they've torn down many landmarks, and there are so many people here (including a ton of nonwhites in a formerly very white area) that I doubt it will ever feel the same.
