But really listen to classical (and consider you're hearing modern re-recordings after the fact as well) and then listen to anything made today and tell me we've advanced as a society in terms of more than technology or law but enlightenment, creation, philosophy?
Yes, laws make our world safer, industrial farming feeds us endlessly, but god is dead, the family is next, money owns everything, almost nobody feels the need to care about anything beyond individual hedonism, and almost everybody lacks purpose or meaning.
