Will we ever go to space in our lifetime? I guess by this I mean "do you think space travel will become feasible for the everyman in our lifetime?"

Not affordably. Mars is a big maybe as a total human feat. A lunar base is more likely. Anything else is dreams and delusions.

The only exception I can see changing that is if The Singularity happens during our lifetime and it turns out well for us instead of The Terminator. If we have a benevolent omniscient tool to greatly advance science during our lifetime we can develop leaps and bounds faster than even the stellar progress we've made over the last century.

I guess it depends on what you mean by space travel and feasible. We're never leaving the solar system unless we invent ships that will be self sustaining for extremely long periods of time, and we're not colonizing any planets any time soon.

It doesn't seem like it will be. There would have to be some financial incentive for space exploration. Earth still has enough resources at the moment to not worry about it.

Platinum metals are the most valuable ones which make up a very tiny percentage of metals ores on Earth usually copper. Rare earth magnets also. In my opinion the current infrastructure makes the cost too high for the benefit but that could change based on more base satellites and a moon base which both will take decades to develop.
