Ash goes to Alola because that's a fucking fact of nature, get over it.
Ash meets up with Selene, because male player characters don't exist. Predictible.
The third member of the crew? James.
How? Team Rocket gets sent on "vacation". Jessie and Meowth are poorfags, so they have to stay home, but James' family hears about this, and takes him on vacation to Alola forcibly. In the first few episodes, Ash finds James, who's escaped his families' vacation home. The two are about to square off when Team whoever-the-fuck shows up and starts wrecking shit. The heroes save the day, and the tense moment resolved, James finally communicates that he is on vacation from his duties, and wants to get away and just see the region. James promises no Pika-napping, and Ash reluctantly agrees, on the grounds that James still has an allowance from his family to buy food, because we don't have a cook.
James winds up grabbing all of the cute shitmons like he usually does (Cutiefly and Mimikyu, and probably Bewear are likely), and sees the sights.
Meanwhile, towards the second half, Jessie and Meowth finally get to Alola somehow to find James. They team up with Jessiebelle or something to do so, making for a drama arc as they try to convince James to come back, while James just wants to tour the region peacefully.
