Feels bad, bros, but also so good. I got arena trapped by a Trapinch earlier too, this is exactly as dangerous as the Pokemon world should feel.

Well for starters, not every Java application will work on every system, so that is probably why it's not Windows. It's exe based but there are a bunch of jars.

I'm struggling to gather materials because all my Pokemon hate the neutral grass envoirmet, is there anyway to fabricate their original environment with furniture or do I need to drop them off in forests or whatever and keep rotating around to get drops?

you can easily create the tileset they like even if you only have a few tiles of environment.
You need a poke with dig to place environment tiles tho.

Isn't that the point of Java though? If a system can interpret Java bytecode, then anything programmed in Java should work. That's my understanding of it. Anyway, I think I'll be trying the game, it looks intriguing

Just so you know, the source code isn't there. I don't know if they put it elsewhere, but it's not in the Github repository at least. It's just assets. Sprites, music and stats (.asm files like the ones you'd see in pokecrystal).

You have to dig up tiles to get them to put elsewhere first.
Bugs only like it when there are a lot of flower tiles around, flying types need lots of trees (they prefer larger trees) and grass type probably works the same as bug but with wild grass (use miracle seed to grow it)
