essentially, because books are grouped signatures, and the outer layer of the signature has a greater distance than the inner layer, publishers have to adjust the text block, moving it incrementally further away from the spine as the pages of the signature add up.
This keeps the textblock lined up page to page once the book prints.
Essentially, what I'm saying is that if printers can figure it out, the same can be done for card slots in an album. So yes. The pages of the signature for an album would be expected to have extra space between the inner column and the binding.
