Not really a surprise, I suppose, given the absolute mess that was the last stretch of Journeys, but go back to episode 3 of the series, when Ash and Goh have their little disagreement after encountering the Bulbasaur, and Goh comments on how it was a mistake to see Ash as a friend, and that he was just like the others, implying Goh HAD made friends before Ash, even if those friendships didn't last. So maybe Koharu's line makes more sense in the context that Ash is the first friend that actually stuck around, but even if she had said that, it still makes it sound like, as you said, Koharu only ever really "tolerated" Goh, lol. Which still would be a contradiction, given Koharu had been shown to smile at Goh and show concern for him in the past. Idk, what can I say other than the writers really didn't know wtf they were doing, which is weird given both Goh and Koharu weren't hard characters to write for, and it wouldn't have taken much to give them both interesting and unique storylines.
