Let's say: due to Dialga and Palkia going awol, space and time have been warped, transporting the player to these different regions in different points in time as the story progresses. Pallet Town, Lavender Town, Goldenrod, Fortree, and Jubilife are all must-haves, to name a few.
Think about it. This would make Genwunners happy, because the games could start between Pallet and Pewter. It would make Johtoddlers happy. It would make Hoennbabies happy. And it would give Sinnohfags their remake without focusing solely on the Shittoh region.
I feel like a game like this could tie Gens 1 through 4 together FOR GOOD, leaving a nice pretty bow on top of the first "era" of Pokemon. Then afterwards, they could jump into a real Gen 8 and leave all the nostalgiapandering behind.
