1. Don't have such sloppy coloring! That's the main problem, it looks like a child's first watercolor because there are no clearly defined lines as to where the orbs end or begin. It's all very sketchy, and you can't have that when doing lineless art. It's incredibly important that the edges are clean, because that's the only way people can tell what shape you're making. Put effort into it. Refine it.
2. Shading is not something you just put on one edge like that. Shading goes everywhere, especially when you're shading a ball. Keep a consistent light source, and have highlights as well - not just darkness. Extra-shiny spots, particularly on metallic things like voltorbs etc, are just as important to giving depth.
4. Too sharp is better than too fuzzy. If you feel it's too soft, use something with no softness at all - it might look better.
