It could be they intend to make Pokemon Home the new National Dex where everything gets stored.
They already confirmed trading. They may not have battling in it by the time it launches, but I expect they'll try to make it happen sometime during Gen 8 and push Home as a kind of Pokemon Showdown but only with Pokemon you actually caught/raised/injected.
My guess would be it goes
