In Crystal you can get Phanpy and Teddiursa before the first gym if you're interested. The Odd Egg has a, like, 20% chance of being shiny? So I would always save scum to get a shiny. And the 4 people you can phone for the evolutionary stones, you can keep going to your mom and changing daylight savings time and walking outside the house and there's a really high chance that'll trigger them calling. So if you really wanted a stone evo, there you go.
