>>39830562It's a lie the developers impleted into the lore to keep children interested. Truthfully balls overpower the will of a pokemon, hence why the fight to escape. Once captured, a mon only knows it's state inside the ball and the will of its master. Inside the balls the mons are actively pacified by its energy field slowly eroding away it's animal like instincts. Intelligent mons need not apply to this for they're already in command if their instincts. But the ball will make those mons come to accept their master over time, and the newly created state of their perceived freedom. Hence why friendship means little in terms of power, and how tms basically drill battle moves into their brains. You can befriend your slaves or you can use them for power. But the game teaches that slaves who view their master as a friend give their master true power.
This is much like what humans did with wild dogs and wolves.
