Yes; it was never about Charmander's character, it was about giving Ash a new obstacle to figure out. Funny enough, in hindsight, if we HAD to lose one the three's old personalities to check that box, I would have picked Charmander too. Stubborn Bulbasaur and delinquent Squirtle were more fun.
