The Champion doesn't sit on a chair waiting to be toppled by the next rando. He WINS this year's tournament and is the champion until next year. It's a sporting event and it's being treated like such. People even wearing shorts and jerseys for the big matches. I can't overstate how much I love this.
By far the most enjoyable Pokémon installment on the Switch.
