He's honestly got a great characterization and a deeper personality than "duuude malasadas haha amirite". He can express emotions in a way that makes it feel natural. More importantly, though, the game gives you the option to constantly shit on Hau, and Hau actually reacts annoyed or offended whenever you do this like a normal human being would instead of laughing it off (such as being upset when you tell him his jokes aren't funny or getting angry at you if you interrupt his dialogue with "Of course" when he hasn't even told you what he was going to say yet). He's also got some surprisingly decent battles even with his lower movesets, and he can actually put up a fight (plus losing to him in most of his fights doesn't send you back to a center to try again, the game just keeps on going and it helps it feel natural).
I know he gets meme'd on a lot but there is more going for Hau than you'd think. It helps that Game Freak also copy pasted him into Gen 8 with Hop, except they stripped out all of Hau's personality and human emotions, reactions, and competency as a battler to make one of the most annoying, patronizing dickweeds of all time, to show you just how badly Hau could've been done.
