Worst case is that you just catch Pokemon randomly in the digital world from the trailer, with some bullshit explanation like "Oh hey! You may have noticed there are wild Pokemon here in the digital world that you can catch... In fact, they're Pokemon whose data was lost from the storage system, now they're forced to wander cyberspace..."
Best case, there are new, fun systems based around interacting with NPC breeders & traders, supplemented by catching urban-adapted, park dwelling, or sewer Pokemon.
