Virtually all the mechanics outside of battling should be the normal going forward, there is zero reason to go back to being forced to battle to capture Pokemon anymore unless you want a higher catch chance. It's so much more fun to catch hordes and sneak around with Smoke Bombs than it is to plink at a Pokemon individually. Not to mention Alphas were genuinely scary until you figure out the backstab cheese, and even that could be fixed by just giving them full HP if you run.
