Zubat pissed the hell out of me when I encountered him countless times when I was a kid.
But after a caught and trained one to become a Golbat, It became a badass motherfucker with a giant-ass mouth and a pretty bitching sprite overall. It became my go-to Flying type on my E4 team (because I was a retard and haven't caught any of the legendary birds back then).
After Gold/Silver came out, I made it a point to transfer Golbat and Blastoise (2 of the strongest 'mons in my team back then, besides the legendaries), especially after finding out Golbat has a new more awesome evo.
