>>30927265It always kind of felt like there was more work put into the individual plots. They all felt kind of unique and went really well with whatever the pokemon of the week was and it also felt like there was a bit of legitimate danger to the world. I dunno, it's probably just nostalgia but it just felt like it wasn't really overly dumbed down for the sake of kids back then. Like the atmosphere was allowed to be a little bit more varied between episodes. Also Ash and friends hadn't gotten stuck in eternal status quo yet.
The pokemon battles themselves though were never good.
