Masuda was actually correct, even if his reasoning is a bit ridiculous. What he said about phones is especially true in Japan, where phones are just used more.
It is a fact that third versions, the ones with Battle Frontier, got a lot less sales, and even among those that did buy them, not many actually played through all the facilities. I know many who end the game with the credits. I was one of those people in the beginning. The facilities had no end to them, so playing them wasn't fun for me. Because it felt pointless. There were no goals. This is why Delta Episode was played by so many, and loved by most of them. It had story, it was short, it had an end.
