Two of them clearly show that Game Freak intended the starters to represent character classes in typical western fantasy settings, and they do do very well. But, Greninja? Why is it a ninja, and not an archer or assassin? It’s the odd one out.
Why even make a starter theme if you won’t be loyal to it? Heck, even Decidueye fits the Kalos starter theme more than Greninja, with it being a stealth archer and all.
