If you're dead when Zapdos dies, you don't get your 20 points. This means that Zapdos gives your team up to 100 extra points. If everyone has 50 points after getting Zapdos, that lets your team score up to 250 points, which is doubled to 500 with the point multiplier. But since it's not likely for your team to score the maximum 500 after getting Zapdos, usually getting Zapdos and scoring whatever you have results in enough to turn a loss into a win. All because of the double point multiplier that takes effect at the 2 minute mark. And the multiplier has nothing to do with Zapdos, meaning you can use it to backdoor and win the game for your team just by getting one big goal lategame.
