>>53236543>you shouldn't have to see the animations to be interested in the design.I mean...that's also not the case, for the same reasons. Even outside of that, most fanart I see doesn't even use the mouths as a focal point (though saying it's uncommon would be a lie), they just play off of the inherent "cuteness" of the design or the concept of small family to craft scenarios.
>The mouths especially are a very useful detail that really add to the design and yet they're entirely absent in all official artworkThere are a massive ton of Pokemon that don't really have aspects shown off in artwork though. Genesect's weird compact mode, Zek/Resh's glowing tails, Budew's colored petals, the Paldean Tauros' horn glow, etc. The point of the official artwork has always been to give a baseline impression of the mon and be easily splashable/replicable for advertisement purposes-as a consequence, MOST of them end up missing entire dimensions to a Pokemon's design. People didn't know Purrloin stood up until an entire gen after it was even introduced. Art like Spidops' is the exception rather than the rule.
But yes, "hidden" aspects of it's design like the pink blushing cheeks and mouths have shown up in other art.
> Maybe i'm just tired after three generations of designs I'm nowhere near as passionate about as the first six.Honestly I find Gen 7 and 9's dexes to be outright better than some of the first 6's (namely Hoenn and Unova), but that's all taste I suppose.
>they're good fodder for safe shock humor and online animators.I guess that's understandable position, but at the same time, I see a whole lot of people say that the sanrio-like simplicity IS what makes it appealing to them in the first place. I dunno, I think it's kinda just the two aspects playing into the general popularity of the design first and then just happen to be conducive to easy jokes and art second
