Lillie feels like she's the true protagonist, and we are just there to escort her to the next cutscene. She just randomly shows up and the game forces you to play babysitter. I found that incredibly annoying.
Arven on the other hand feels largely independent. Yes, he needs help with the Titans, but we can decide when we do that rather than being randomly ambushed when the game thinks it's time for story stuff. He contributes to the fights, even if it's not much, but he doesn't feel like a helpless baby.
There's some other things about Arven that make him more interesting than Lillie, like the whole Mabosstiff thing and the fact that he's kind of an asshole at the beginning, clearly hiding something.
So yes, Arven us just a much better Lillie and only coomers disagree.
