Sure, there were dark times, I mean really dark times, a whole lot of them (and there still is a fuck ton to this day). But a lot of tiny brighter moments were also sprinkled all the way up until now.
There was no golden age, no good old times. I think that if every step of your journey contain some sort of meaning or satisfaction for yourself, then you are living your best life. Doesn't matter if it was always like that, doesn't matter if it starts today.
It's not about the destination, after all.
