>>22957025Pokeathlon: the game
Like a party-sports game with a bunch of different events, but Pokemon themed. Somewhere between the Pokeathlon and the minigames in Stadium. Fun for all the family
Instead of being able to enter any Pokemon in any event like the Pokeathlon or having 1-2 Pokemon per event like Stadium, there's like a pool of maybe ~20 possible Pokemon characters per event (perhaps with some being unlockable too.)
This gives you some variety and leverage beyond just gitting gud at the game while also keeping the character requirements low enough that each character can be fully rendered in 3D with fitting animations and unique abilities tailored to their event.
So for example, for the running event you might have access to Pokemon like Dodrio, Zebstrika and Rapidash. These would have different stats (but would be balanced with no Pokemon being OP ideally). You could also have special abilities to make it more gamey that could be used once per race or after a certain time or something. e.g: Smokescreen for Rapidash slows down any Pokemon that are close behind Rapidash, Wild Charge for Zebstrika gives a sudden burst of speed, etc. Going overboard with abilities would make it too chaotic though, one per Pokemon seems fine.
Events like running, weight lifting etc. would be relatively small affairs similar to Stadium minigames, but there could also be bigger sporting events too. For bigger team games like Soccer and Baseball the pool of playable characters could be much bigger and you could play around a lot with stats and abilities. Taking pic related as an example of a soccer team, Pikachu could have Static ability which makes Pokemon who tackle him while he has the ball have a chance of being paralyzed for a moment. Bulbasaur could use his vines to nab the ball at a distance, or save the ball more easily in goal.
