>>27199920Nidoran breeding is a bit complicated, due to the nature of their genders.
This species is one of the best communicators, as they have a wide vocabulary, and expert hearing.
A special trait of male nidoran is that when born with the extremely rare 'shiny' quality, they can pass for females. This is often used to their advantage, as they will sneak into a male's territory where they have collected multiple females, and they can get away with mating with these females. A phenomenon seen only once includes females forcing a shiny male to satisfy their male master's needs once they have already been fertilized, as nidokings can get very aggressive, and there is not always enough females during the mating season.
Nidokings will mate with anything it can, including lower evolutions, males, females, and sometimes things that won't be able to produce from it. Once females have chosen their mates, all the females of one mate flock together and take care of each other as if they were sisters. They will collectively protect their children as if each were their own. They are not incredibly loyal to their mates, but if a female of another mate comes into their territory, there will be an intense battle. Females can detect their 'sisters' by scent, as a fertilized female will smell like its mate. Children who have wandered into another territory will be killed, their fur and spikes and bones being put to making a better nest.
Often mating with a nidoking is fatal if you are not of the same species, so nidokings will bring these corpses back as trophies to show off and make their territory. These corpses are too often used to make better nests or the children.
The mating itself is an aggressive display of dominance from the males. Its hard and fast, and very similar to rabbits, with the males mounting females.
