Personally I'd think it'd be cool. It'd be pretty interesting some dynamics. I can imagine an old man standing in front of large memorial of a uniformed human and a Pokemon, perhaps either explaining what the statue is, or just reminiscing about how he misses his squadmate.
Granted the Japs and Germans were besties in WWII so leave it to the former to paint the latter in a good light
