They were a game review fanzine and decided that if they knew how to criticize games they also knew what makes a game good, so maybe they should try to do a game (?), and that game was Pokemon RB.
But now they are a big company involved in a 3-way contract with two huge companies and developing games for one of the biggest IPs in the world. They can't even take many risks at this point.
Of course, they should remember how much difference a little help from developers from other companies made back then and how Satoru Iwata basically saved Pokemon GS. But, maybe, there's pride involved. They can pay a third party to make a demo, at least, showing some new ideas to improve the main games, but what if it comes out bad? And worse: what if it comes out good?
