This comes from my guess that GF will do sort of a Battle Network/Star Force thing with Pokemon. They will revamp formula hard, simplify it in many regards (like IVs, natures etc.) and initially limit the number of Pokemon to something below 300, with "cooler" redesigns. From there the subsequent games will no longer be "generations", but just sequels, with each one re-introducing a bunch of old mons in redesigned form, which fans will greet with open arms.
I base this on GFs plans to streamline the game sometime in the future (probably gen 7) and their experiments with reworking old designs instead of introducing completely new ones (relatively small number of new mons in favour of megas in gen 6).
Introducing a new batch of monstres each generation makes marketing the game harder each time, it's simply better to focus on a smaller number.
But they will still struggle to compete with new franchises, until eventually they'll lose the fight and Nintendo will no longer be interested in pouring so much money into Pokemon, hence the weakened position I mentioned.
